It's official...

The Phillies will be on 94.1 WIP-FM & 1210 WPHT-AM for 2012 as announced by Howard Eskin on his Saturday show.

It's a kind of hedge-fund thing, Tommy G. Just in case the FM dial of every major market in the hemisphere starts to clog and back up with talk and sports overload, ol' reliable AM is there.

I'm in a distinct minority here in NEPA -- a Mets fan who listens to the Mets play the Phillies on 1210 instead of WFAN. But that's minor. I'm in a larger minority inasmuch as, being about a hundred miles away from WPHT's stick, I'm a fringe-signal listener. They come in well here in the day, by the way, an easy catch, and with KYW they are the two loudest Philadelphia stations on AM or FM. My point here is that 94KX out of Sunbury destroys 94.1 in these parts.

TBTB can't be concerned whatsoever about a Mets fan a hundred miles away who listens to their PBP on WPHT, lol. Management has bigger and closer fish to fry. They're just seeing which fishing hole shows more promise while they can afford to do so.

Why have them on 1210 WPHT if they are going to be on 94.1 Who is going to listen to AM when you can hear it on FM

I would certainly consider not running the weekday day games so as not to pre-empt Rush and daytime talk programming anymore.

I catch The Phils in my car in Florida. I'm glad they're on 1210, when they play Cincinnati I have em on 700, St. Louis on 1120, Chicago on 720, NY on 660. I hope they never leave AM.

I'll be listening to the Phils on either 1210 or 1150 WDEL, depending on whic station I am closer to. Frankly, I still prefer 610 to 94WIP.

They make more money off those weekday games than they do off of Rush and daytime talk programming. And probably still will do so with 94.1 in the picture, too.

1210 AM still has a very good signal though it's not what it used to be. Fans outside of the limited range of 94.1 will continue to listen to games on the AM.

I'm wondering if a sports conflict like Flyers and sixers games, etc happens, will KYW and WOGL air the games that WIP and WPHT can't air?

Flyers have run AM only (610) a couple of times already this season during Eagles conflicts. I assume that will continue through the football season, and continuing into the Phillies start. I don't know how they will handle a deep playoff run for the Flyers in May & June...I can't see a potential Stanley Cup final run being AM only. I'm guessing the Phils will be on 1210 only for Eagles conflicts...

This is long overdue. Although the Phillies themselves have not announced it.

There's no question the Phillies cannot displace an Eagles broadcast, even in a down season for the Birds.

I think the Flyers question is a less obvious one. The NHL in general is much less popular than it once was.

And what about Temple? Do their basketball games get bumped to the other CBS Radio stations in the city or other stations in the city because of the Phillies playing in March, during march madness, if Temple is in it again?

94's signal is always jammed where I am. I have no choice but to listen to AM radio.

I like this news. Even though I may not get 94.1 all the time from where I live. Its good to have the back up on AM that usually works on my way home from work to hear the Phils.

I think all baseball teams should have their flagship station a 50000 watt clear channel AM. It is nice to be able to listen to a night game for hours when driving a long distance. Or for teams like the Yankees which have fans everywhere, WCBS's signal reaches very far. The MLB can't charge a fee to listen to skywave.

NHL is probably more popular at any point since the early 90's nationally...and Philly is one of the "big" hockey markets.

Can't see a Flyers playoff game getting AM only over an April regular season Phillies game.

I think they will handle it like comcast does. April Phillies are first to get bumped. September/October Flyers & Sixers. Of course all will be bumped by the eagles.

The Phillies are the first to get bumped from Comcast because they have an alternative destination: Channel 57. Same will be true now on the radio: 1210.
