(It's raining) Men 25-54

The sports war...
Men 25-54 M-Su, 6a-Mid, Ticket #2 (behing KLNO), ESPN #16, Fan #24

M-F 6a-Mid, Ticket #1, ESPN 14th, Fan 23rd

Morning drive Ticket #1 (with a 10.1), ESPN 9th, Fan 17th

10-Noon, Ticket 1st, ESPn 19th, Fan 14th. (is Michael irvin killing ESPN from within?)

12-3p Ticket #1, ESPN 18th, Fan 20th

3-7p Ticket #1, ESPN 16th, Fan 26th

7-Mid, ESPN 13th, Ticket 29th, Fan 30th.
(And the Fan was pretty consistent all summer, 1.9, 1.9, 2.2, up to a 2.9 in August, up to a 3.2 in September. What ever could have happened to cause them to drop to a .9 in October and a 1.0 in November. What ever could they have been doing all summer that disappeared in October... :D)

Hmmm.....let me think..........so you are saying the ONLY thing The Fan had was the radio powerhouse TX RANGERS? (he says tongue-in-cheek) Yep, that's what you are saying. Who knew the Cowboys games wouldn't produce weekday ratings? Oh yeah, everybody who has ever worked sports radio in this town.

Actually; whenever Barry Horn has posted the hour by hour reviews of ratings; it's not Michael Irvin who is killing ESPN's ratings; it's Colin Cowherd's show. The ratings drop drastically for those two hours of Mr. Cowherd!

thats odd, then why dont the ratings go up more than one slot from the 10-12 hours to the 12-3 hours when Mike is on?

They dont.

All this proves is the Fan can't compete w/ the more established sports stations and they'll be playing tejano music next year.

Not saying that the Rangers are the ONLY thing the Fan has going for them.. They also have a sportsy morning show hosted by a non-sports expert, a midday show consisting of a radio failure and a guy who's never done radio full time before, and 2 afternoon guys who've bounced from market to market because they're not just not that good.

So they've got plenty going for them. And so I didn't say that it was the ONLY thing they had going for them. What I WAS pointing out is that their night ratings, the one place where they were having some kind of success, has cratered (i.e dropped by 2/3rds) now that the Rangers are off the air.

So they don't have the Rangers puffing up their cume numbers, and they can't count on Cowboys to drive weekday ratings, what DO they have? In their target demo, they're not only getting killed by their competitors, they have TWENTY other stations that are more popular with men. TWENTY. That's almost physically impossible.

Are m25-54 listening at all to music anymore? Country? Dorsey? who is winning them musically?

Let's see what happens in the Fall book.....I predict that the Fan will improve and ESPN will slide

I like Mike and Mike, but on Monday morning after a Cowboy game over the weekend?....every male wants to listen to Cowboy stuff not how Duke's basketball chances look......they should go live and local just Monday AM drive.....

I was a big fan of Michael Irvin's but he has gotten worse over time and I can't understand him 50% of the time...does anyone at the station ever critique him? Nate Newton is far better and Kevin Kiley is the best of the three.....

I know ESPN is under difficult financial restrictions, but they are committing suicide the way the are programming network the AM drive after the game, and by not getting Michael to speak clearly....does he ever listen to a dub of his show??????

So you think the Jagger Show provides the kind of in-depth analysis of the Cowboys guys want to hear on mondays?

Since 103.3 is an O&O it will always clear Mike and Mike, no ifs ands or buts.

I suspect you're right...but it's a mistake.....it was one thing when it was just The Ticket competing, but now The Fan is right down the dial.....if ESPN ran the spots and promoted Mike and Mike, I wonder of the Big Ears would let it happen.......

It would be a tad different if 103.3 were owned by someone else. According to little 1, to keep the ESPN branding, they have to clear Mike and Mike.

The Fan has received all the curious listener sampling it is going to get. It almost pulled even with ESPN about three months ago but has been sliding ever since. If anything, ESPN will do a little better as the Mavs season progresses.

The Fan's sampling spike is over and it is settling into its permanent spot.

Damn you little1 - I have had It's Raining Men stuck in my head all day because of your post... "Not that there's anything wrong with that." ;)

Right... remember it is a Disney property and that means the O&O Radio Disney and ESPN stations exist primarily for the purpose of extending the brands and national clearance of programming. All ESPN affiliates...whether owned by ESPN or not...are required to carry Mike & Mike. All the O&O ESPN stations air Mike & Mike plus at least one other daytime show (Cowherd here). Disney is all about extending the brands...putting the Disney name on ABC's children's programming, branding all sports on ABC as "ESPN on ABC", ESPN restaurants, Disney stores, on-line sites, and radio.

Regardless of how good KESN's ratings are or not, KESN will not be going anywhere. It will be here to clear ESPN programming and have the ESPN brand in radio market 5 (not to mention to have "synergy" with espndallas.com). That will be KRLD-FM's challenge...if you don't think the market can support 3 stations and KESN is not going anywhere...

I consider that statement the benchmark for all posts about The Fan...

I second JD's Motion, and add "and they are still beating Irvin, how bad is he?"

Incidentally, and waaaay off the topic, the song "It's Raining Men" was co-written by the great Paul Shaffer. His girlfriend (now wife) originally hated the song. I'm sure she's not complaining now.

So he's who we can blame.
