It's the Magic of Christmas

where does all this wisdom come from?

Sorry, thought a forum was a place to voice an opinion. Never said I was an programming expert. Just telling you how I view it as a listener.
Agree, and I like your views

The only 'old' sounding Christmas songs I've heard are Brenda Lee's "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree", and Dean Martin's "Baby It's Cold Outside", and it was the version remixed with Martina McBride. A lot of it's stuff like Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Glee Cast, Michael Buble, etc. Acceptable.

I heard Liz Ryals play a Christmas song, then she said something about it and if you want more Christmas music, listen to the online stream....after that, she said "back to the fresh, new sound of MY 102.5."

The Christmas music may be one way they're helping to promote the stream. I have heard no indication that the actual station is going all-Christmas, thankfully!

Yep, just about every time I've heard a Christmas song they've said something similar. Go to the website if you want more. Really think this is the way they're going to handle things this year. Fingers crossed.

To be honest, I realize that traditional AC stations like Magic (and formerly MY) go all-Christmas. But in bigger cities that still have Easy Listening, that's really where all-Christmas belongs. Even on a regular AC station, they don't play Bing Crosby the other 10 months of the year.

I'm not 100% sure, but if I recall correctly, after the 2nd or 3rd week of November, Delilah usually just offers a Christmas playlist. Most of her affiliates have gone all-Christmas.

Now she REALLY sticks out...

the percent you thought you might not be correct is the percent you should have relied on. checked premiere radios website and the offer a holiday as well as regular feed in november and december.

Didn't I read that Los Angeles already has TWO stations that are Christmas music 24/7 ??
Don't get me wrong, I too think its a horrible mistake - but it could be worse

Yeah...there are also two in Atlanta. We used to always have two here in Greenville until this year, when MY 102.5 decided not to jump on the wall to wall Christmas bandwagon with Magic.

I just heard Marne Mason play Jimmy Durante and say it was "the Christmas station." Right after that, she said "the fresh, new sound" and went in to The Fray.

Which are they ???

Obviously, this is how a real "Christmas" station should sound.
Not too much, and not nothing...just right. ;D

But I still think it's way too early...

I agree, I like the way they are doing it as well, but it doesn't sound right to call yourself "The Christmas Station" and you're just playing 1-2 Chrismas songs an hour. Not to mention 98.9 is also calling themselves that and is wall-to-wall Christmas. It just seems odd to play Dean Martin, call yourselves The Christmas Station, then segue in to Owl City and say it's the fresh, new sound.
They are keeping the Christmas songs more on the new side, definitely, and are staying away from the dreadful, slow ones like "Christmas Shoes", "Merry Christmas Darling", and "The Gift."

"A taste of Christmas on the fresh, new sound" would make more sense, imo.

your christmas wish didn't come true. 102.5 went all christmas
Yep.

Kind of a strange time to flip the switch. I don't get why they waited so long after Magic - unless it was in effort to get listeners who didn't yet want Christmas music to sample MY, hoping they come back after the holidays. WSPA already has ~10 days ahead of them in getting the all-Christmas audience.

I think WSPA has Christmas. It may not do great, but they'll be ahead of WMYI.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed when I woke up this morning and heard all-Christmas. It seems strange that all last week they were pushing their web stream like mad --- "if you want to hear Christmas music 24/7 just go to our website". I truely thought they were going about it the right way. Just sprinkling in a bit of Christmas tunes here and there, but sticking with their new format for the most part.

I don't know what the ratings will look like. But I imagine there were probably some Magic people that started listening to MY when 98.9 went all-Christmas. I honestly don't know a single person that wants to hear Christmas music all the time (until maybe the week before Christmas).

Sad. I hope this doesn't come back to bite them. I know I won't be listening until after the holidays.

There really isn't anything for me to listen to now, unless I can stomach B-93.7 and their awful air talent. I would listen to 96.1, but they're still unreceivable here.

I'll say this much....if I am wanting to hear all-Christmas music, I'm listening to it on Magic. MY kinda falls short. It's been that way for a few years.

i don't think playing all christmas is about ratings. it's about advertising dollars. in past years i have seen monthlies where one of the country stations won the month of december. again, it is arbitron. how can one station have a 10 share one month and a 4 share the next? does audience tune in and out that way. arbitron is more about balancing their demos and making up poor diary return month to month. they want to show their subscribers how many diaries were returned in each demo. if they are short on 18-34 year old men in december, christmas will not do well in that month. christmas is a throw away for 98.9 and 102.5. real advertisers should look at their performance the other 10.5 months of the year. i am not sure people buy christmas trees on veterans day, but maybe they do

As I've always said "Boobism" runs rampant, but Stupidity runs deep, and at the bottom of that well, more than likely, is a muddy little Consultant crowing about his brillant move. For most of us in the Think Tank,...MAGIC was a given to donn the Red Sweater,...knowing that you are out of the Fall book on 12/8. Regarding MY, I didn't know either way, and I even dared to give them a positive nod for protecting their new format. However, Stupid is as Stupid does! With the econ in the toliet, and money as tight as Joan River's face, it would seem that "what we did for the last..." would not be concidered. Well,...just like it was: The book comes back, the two Country's have a 9 or a 10, while the two AC's squirm around a 4 or 5, and no one seems to mind the reocuring...RUT!
