Magic 98.9 went all Christmas at 7PM. Found out a few minutes early via their text club. Made a big deal out of the launch.
Agreed. Magic has come a long way in the past 5 years, overall. They do a good job with all Christmas, and it fits well there.MarkSC said:It's the right move by Magic. They're the Mainstream AC now, and they'll own Christmas. While that may not have performed the past couple of years like it did 2001-2006, they're forcing MYI's hand. If My makes the move, they play music that's less compatible with their format. If they don't, Magic cleans up as the only Christmas station.

Not a fan of running his 3-hour condensed weekend show when the 5-hour one is already aired 6 nights a week.
Magic just drops in the John Tesh bits in from 7pm-12am and programs their own music. They started doing that a couple of years ago. His show was all-Christmas right when it started. Strangely, they use Tesh's music when they air the weekend edition. I think it'll be a couple more weeks until the weekend edition is all-Christmas.KyleAndMelissa22 said:carolinaradio said:BTW: nice way to break the format from 6-9am this morning with the John Tesh 3-hour show, which was playing regular AC music.

I think a little closer to Christmas, even the John Tesh show syndicates the Christmas format,
at least as I remember it in 2008 (when I last spent Christmas in the Upstate).
Is Magic 98.9 also playing Christmas music during the evening John Tesh show. If they are then it's not really full syndication.
(the music during syndication is on many stations at the same time, like Delilah on 102.5 & 102.9)
Although John Tesh stations may tape-delay the syndication to some of their stations (not sure)
but the music is still usually chosen by where the radio show originates from, not the station playing it.

John Tesh's show is more compatible compared to Delilah. I've heard his show on AC, Hot AC, Adult Standards, Classic Hits, religious stations. It can be moved around and customized to fit the station very well. In a way, the way Magic does it, it's almost like he's voicetracking. The reason they do it, beats the heck out of me.KyleAndMelissa22 said:See I don't see any point to this, unless the syndicated music is not normally what the station would play
(for now it's Christmas music). But the point of airing a radio show is so that the station could sit back and let the syndication take over.
If Magic is doing the music during the John Tesh show we're just hearing the "intelligence for your life"
but with the same "Magic" music.
I believe The Link in Charlotte is/was airing the John Tesh show and the music was a little different than Magic,
so I kinda see the point if 107.9 did their own music, as John Tesh is more AC than Hot AC.
When Delilah syndicates notice the completely different format she'll play on most stations that she's on,
but at least I think she's picking the music.
