JD

No one has ever accused you of being a bad guy, quite the contrary. Additionally, you have the right to speak and fight for the radio nirvana that you seek. Unfortunately, you seem to be the Ponce de Leon of radio. Keep searching for the Fountain of Youth JD. Unfortunately, you'll probably only find a pest-ridden swamp in Florida.

PS: M ONeil..on behalf of most of us that visit radio-info.com...shutup.

You mean like....Lake Las Vegas?

It's not about radio Nirvana. It's about treating On-Air people like....People.

Thanks again for the kind words.

JD, I'm treated like a person. I'm paid well and I get to play radio. Do I have issues with the way corporations are destroying the medium? Of course I do. Do I disagree with the direction of my own station from time to time. Yes! Do I vocalize my opinion(s)? YES!

Unlike you, I choose to work within the framework of the corporate model. I speak up. They either agree or disagree. I then have the choice as to whether I want to work under those conditions. As of today, the good has always outweighed the bad.

JD, if you ever hope to work full-time doing what you love, (Talk Radio, I'm guessing) you're going to have to adapt and accept the things you cannot change. If not, you'll just be another disgruntled part-time or former radio guy who constantly hits radio-info.com or allaccess.com to bitch about how bad Las Vegas radio is or preach Marconi's demise. (As you well know, this room is filled with them.)

I don't know if you're beholden to the Vegas market or not but you're running out of options. I hope I don't hear you on Metro traffic or selling gift certificates and concert tickets on K-Shop.

Re: Just Desserts

Vet....

Thanks again for the opportunity for a real-life, honest, constructive discourse....

One thing about this that I think you may be mistaken about. I'm not upset per se with corporate radio....I'm upset about lousy, poorly-managed radio that foolishly annihilates, and abuses its workers, while short-changing it's listeners. It certainly doesn't take a corporation to do that.

You have a wonderful circumstance. That's great! But, are you the rule, or the exception? (This is a tough question to answer, because most of those who would stand up to say you are the exception have been dealt out of the game thanks to budget cuts, and voice-tracking.)

Further, the only corporate radio I've worked for in the last 5 years was Infinity. The others, K-NEWS and KDWN have records that speak for themselves. Without appearing to be a blowhard, I daresay that my departure from both was more a loss for them, than it was for me.

As for options...I have as many as there are. K-NEWS is currently irrelevant....KDWN is sold. That leaves KXNT as a place with which I have zero interest. So, I have lost one. How many do you have? If you're under a corporate contract, you have zero.

And finally....listen to what you said about information radio in this town:

"I hope I don't hear you on Metro traffic or selling gift certificates and concert tickets on K-Shop."

We've accounted for all of the information sources in town save one. A brand new syndicated talker KDOX. So here we are...Market #32, with only one functional Talk station; on the air locally for 4 hours per day or less.

If I have no options....I've got a lot of company.

Thanks Again...

Re: Just Desserts

Okay, before the third ruf.....

I heard 840 over the weekend with ANOTHER new host saying she was going to be in a new slot? If local is dying, what's with all the new people? Why don't you swallow your pride & go back if you want to do a show? Does it always have to be on YOUR terms, or shouldn't big bad corpoate management have a say.

You sir are a coward who hids behind a screen name and calls others names.
You speak only for your pathectic self. Drop the screen name and then we will talk.

Re: Just Desserts

I too, am a coward who hides behind a screen name.

I'm also happily employed, confident in my abilities, successful on air, and in agreement that you are nothing but a depressed former jock, barely adequate to go any further than to slam anyone on this board who truely cares about radio.

Why don't you and JD open a consulting firm called "My way".

Actually, it would be nice if you just went away. Your opinions, with everyone knowing who you are, are a joke. Your bitterness is not appreciated in Las Vegas.

Re: Just Desserts

Sounds to me like YOU are the one that is bitter. All you do is slam J.D. hiding out behind a screen name like a bitter and scared little boy.

No I don't work in Las Vegas radio..after 30 years in Los Angeles Radio and national voiceovers I have a nice retirement from AFTRA/SAG. Vegas radio was always a place to go to be bad which means...a place to learn your trade so that you could try to get into a major market. Now the problem is it hasn't improved much! You would think that with all this growth it would also (radio) grow up. Nope! It's no-talents like you who couldn't make it that keep the small market attitude alive and well and vegas the crap market that it is.
If you log on to the Los Angeles board you won't find anyone like yourself. You could only exist in vegas. The more you mouth off behind a screen name, the more you prove how right I am. I bitch about vegas radio to hopefully piss off the ones who could make a difference and change it to what it should be. You, my friend are only a groopie. Next time bring a note.

Re: Just Desserts

"Okay, before the third ruf....."---Radioworker

That's good, 'cause, I was beginning to worry....

"I heard 840 over the weekend with ANOTHER new host saying
she was going to be in a new slot?"---Rw

SINCERELY, KXNT hiring another weekend Talk Personality is....Superb!
Now, let's all root for them going the extra mile, and hiring a L&L Afternoon Drive person...(Jay McFarland would be my choice)....for market #32, since no one else has the brains/guts/budget to do it.

"If local is dying, what's with all the new people?"---Rw

First of all, I never said local was "dying"...You can't kill what's already dead. There are four Las Vegas News/Talk stations....32 possible airshifts. There are 8 local shows. Eight! If you take away part-time shows, there are 5! Five, out of 32 possible dayparts...unBELEVEable!
So forgive me, one new girl does not "new people" make....but you're right, it's a start.

"Why don't you swallow your pride & go back if you want to do a show?"---Rw

I'm completely done with KXNT....In fact, until I'm in a position to compete with them, I wish them success, and good fortune....Otherwise, I'm sure that sooner or later, someone running a Las Vegas Talk station will wake up to the FACT that I've already beaten everyone on that staff except for Rush, and give me a chance to put my career where mouth is. When that happens, I'll go through that collection of obsolete, out-of-date, irrelevant has beens like the Paper Tigers they are.
(But the new guys better hurry....not even Jack Landreth can screw up an uncontested Talk station forever....just my opinion.)

"Does it always have to be on YOUR terms, or shouldn't big bad corpoate management have a say?"---Rw

Not at all....I'm not anti-corporate one little bit. Never have been. Also, I'm not against REAL radio management. (In fact, no one would have ever heard of Al Pacino if it hadn't been for Francis Ford Copolla.) But, I AM anti-awful, anti-abusive, anti-incompetent, and anti-short-sighted....In short, anti-thug. Anyone you know fit that description?

Thanks....Good Debate.
