I don't think they've wrung it quite dry enough yet.

Personally I'd like to see it go talk. Are FM's still going talk? I know that was a trend for awhile. Anyone see a niche for an FM talk station in the market?

Not a whole lot left after Stern & Opie & Anthony left the airwaves.
What's left? Bon & Tom are funny, and Don & Mike are ok, but i don't know if theres a niche for that in this market. Or anywhere for that matter now that the best National shows keep migrating to satellite radio.

Sure, it might work.. it almost did...but not when Citadel decides to "try" it for six months then pull it. I thought it was a pretty decent station with Bob & Tom, Don & Mike, Opie & Anthony (when on FM), Phil Hendrie, Loveline, and Tom Leykis. But no.. let's simulcast BHT.

Would like to see a re-emergence of "hot-talk" on FM again.

It's a shame Citadel doesn't at least run Loveline on 97.9 -- most other modern rocks air it.. but then again they are going back to the bear with that...

You're right, the market wouldn't support (or tolerate) Stern, O&A, Don and Mike...and Bob & Tom I thought were marginally funny at best and all that laughing at nothing in particular was irritating to listen to.

I was thinking more along the lines of local talk. Not "what about that school board" stuff. It would need to be more compelling than that, but local is supposed to be the salvation of terrestrial radio after the national shows exodus to satellite, no?

Of course this would be compelling through the Shamrock filter. You read their paper, right?

Don't know if you knew, but Stern WAS here from 1997-2000. Basically he asked for more money to renew than Citadel was willing to pay. From what I heard, his numbers were okay, but not enough to justify what he wanted to stay in the market.

> O&A, Don and Mike

Again, they also were here. O & A right up to the infamous sex in church scandal. I thought Citadel's FM talk station was a good idea...I think given the chance it would have worked, but it was the company that chose not to support it, not the market.

I agree.

Good luck. I am friends with several of the people who've tried to do "Local Talk." They tell me it's the same five people who call every day and complain about the same things. As far as these people are concerned there is nothing more compelling than politics as usual in their little towns. Just listen to WILK between 6am & Noon.

There are people out there who I believe can do it---most of us have left radio out of frustration. Maybe VanDerHeyden can get some of us back in.

Been there, Done that.

Frustration...I hear that...believe me...counting the days...

And yeah, I knew Stern, et al were here the last few years...but I don't think Citadel cut them loose despite overwhelming public support...
