Jack Arrives on Friday!

My sincere apologies. You're absolutely right, that was an unintentional omission. I knew I was forgetting something. Allow me to revise:

My Top Ten List of "Jack" Songs

10. Soul Asylum - Jack Of All Trades
9. Nick Cave - Jangling Jack
8. Danny Elfman - Poor Jack
7. Elysian Fields - Jack In The Box
6. Billy Joel - Captain Jack
5. Poe - Trigger Happy Jack
4. AC/DC - The Jack
3. The Who - Happy Jack
2. The Rolling Stones - Jumping Jack Flash
1. The Flaming Lips - Thank You Jack White (For The Fiber-Optic Jesus That You Gave Me)

ROCK ON!

And we can now put to rest all of the "Jack on 95.7" speculation thats popped up on this board from time to time.

Wonder if the CBS folks are going to raise a stink about the call letter similarity betweeen KHJK and KHJZ ?

I think the folks over at CBS might tweak The Wave's calls from KHJZ to KHWV to end this confusion. I believe it looks like the end of Rock'n Roll for KIOL beacause KKRW & KTBZ's dominance have made this station felt weak as we speak. I think BOTH CC raock station's will welcome KIOL's listeners as KIOL gets flipped today.

OK Primarysuspect... I think I was on Post Oak Blvd at the time I heard about the KIOL staff being let go...so I was on the street at the time.

Second... do call letters really matter that much with PPM?

Im glad to see a Jack format arrive in Houston but on rim shot 103.7 ? that poor signal will not be heard in Houston offices west of downtown

So... what's the difference between the Jack and Bob formats?

Nothing, same format, different name. Thats all

It's more of an attitude..the Jack in DFW has what I'd call an "in your face" presentation, whereas the "BOB" format is more laid back. Jokes to be sure, but not mean spirited ones.

I am surprised that the GM for CBS here in Houston didn't jump on the Jack format. In Dallas the CBS Jack is running strong in 3rd in the 25-54 demo. In Houston the Wave has dropped off the map (16th or worse) in cume, 18-49, and 25-54.

Having Jack on a rim shot in Houston isn't going to do much here.

Maybe CBS wil "Freshen" up the call letters?

I've probably said it 500 times, but call letters do not matter.

Also, is anybody going to stream the launch? I guess the KIOL stream is down, and I'd sure like to hear it...

I'm right near BW8/Westheimer and I had to get a $30 antenna to be able to pick up pretty much *any* Houston radio station in my office (I wanted to get KHPT, and can now, but am switching to this new Jack station). Austin had a "Bob FM" station just before I moved down here, and I was surprised at the time to see that Houston had "worse" radio than Austin.

Apparently metallic window tint in a lot of high-rise buildings really messes with FM reception.

Will this be a locally-produced Jack or will it be the satellited version?

Local.....ABC Radio Networks has the syndication rights to JACK on sat....and that in the 50 and down mrkets only iirc.....the top50 markets are all done locally but licensed through the JACK trademark owners in Canada.

Just in case anyone misses it, I have has Audacity recording the last hour of KIOL....7 minutes to go...
will get the flip and probably let it go for an hour or two while out and about..
will have MP3s available later for those who want it.

Last three songs played under the old format:

Last Dance with Mary Jane - Tom Petty
Cold As Ice - Foreigner
blurb - "YOUR WORLD WILL CHANGE AFTER THIS NEXT SONG IS OVER"
Fire - Jimi Hendrix

First song after the switch:

Jumpin' Jack Flash - Rolling Stones

PERSONALLY, I liked the way Dallas' JACK did their flip.....it was much better....Houston's flip was a little too...uuhhh....bland.

I'm just glad they didn't use the overly-cliched "record needle scratch" sound effect or something.

How did the Dallas station do their flip?
