PERSONALLY, I liked the way Dallas' JACK did their flip.....it was much better....Houston's flip was a little too...uuhhh....bland.

I'm just glad they didn't use the overly-cliched "record needle scratch" sound effect or something.

How did the Dallas station do their flip?

At noon on a Friday and the voice on WILD was talking to JACK and told to leave and take some time off at the beach....it was somewhat comical....its on the web somewhere...I'll see if I can dig up the URL for it..

The flip hasn't gone so well - two or three four or five times now a song will fade to static and then come back a few seconds later, or completely drop and then come back. My reception is fine here and this didnt happen on the old format for the past 24 hours, so I suspect problems in the control room.

Agreed, the Wild to JACK/Dallas flip was a classic. It was posted on airchexx.com in their format change section...but I just checked Steve's site and couldn't find it.

I'll dig it out and post it on bigsticksbroadcasting.com site tonight if they don't read this and beat me to it!

1st song under the new format.....JUMPING JACK FLASH.....figures...

WOW!!! This is sweet. This morning, I had breakfast with Pastor Joel - and even HE was jazzed for JACK. This is the biggest thing to hit H-town since all those Katrina refugees moved here and lived at the Astrodome. Jeepers, I'm gonna play Jack at my BBQ on Sunday. Thanks Jack. I love you, man!!! This is sure to be number one with a bullet real soon!!!

Just in case anyone misses it, I have has Audacity recording the last hour of KIOL....7 minutes to go...

Last three songs played under the old format:

Last Dance with Mary Jane - Tom Petty
Cold As Ice - Foreigner
blurb - "YOUR WORLD WILL CHANGE AFTER THIS NEXT SONG IS OVER"
...

and they were right! I was listening to 103.7 when it flipped, not knowing what was about to happen. I promptly pulled my Sirius radio out of my console, placed it on the cradle and cranked up BuzzSaw. Looks like Sirius, my fully loaded ipod and Launchcast are all the "radio" I will need after 10:00 AM on the weekdays. Houston radio is just freakin pathetic and I have lived here my whole life...

I think the folks over at CBS might tweak The Wave's calls from KHJZ to KHWV to end this confusion.

The KHWV call is indeed available. But I don't think CBS will make a change, at least as long as 95.7 is SJ.

Been listening to the new Jack format. Pretty much like the one in DFW. So far seems preferable to many of the stale playlists elsewhere.

I have been listen for 20min now it sounds just like 1069 we do not need another tired worn out 1069

Just give it time. I think Jack-Fm sounds like 104 meets Sunny meets The Arrow meets The Point Meets K-Hits-without the annoying DJ Talk. The library consists of Top-40 music which dates back to 1967. Every song played happens to be a good song.

I listened for about 3 minutes and changed the station..it sucks, sucks badly.
If I wanted to listen to "The eclectic, iPod shuffle-like music format known as Jack FM " I would buy an Ipod. If I wanted to listen to 13 year old girl music, I would let my teenager ride up front.

This playlist is way to broad it needs to be narrowed down a bunch

Still the music that is being played most of it sucks

If you only listened for 3 minutes, technically you only heard one song. Do I detect some drama here?

Knowing CBS they will probably change the Wave's calls to KHMN MOViN'... If you think Jack is bad MOViN is ten times worse. Dallas/Fort Worth radio is way worse than Houston.

A good move to go to the Jack format. If its done right, like Dallas, it will work well. While not impressed with the technical aspects thus far, hopefully it will improve.

As for pointless, this should signal the end for that station as we currently know it, or doesn't Cox have a clue?

The Point seem to be doing fairly well:

18-49: KTBZ, KLTN, KRBE, KBXX, KHMX, KODA, KMJQ, KKRW, KOVE, KLOL, KKBQ, KILT, KHPT, KHTC, KTJM.
25-54: KKRW, KTBZ, KLTN, KODA, KMJQ, KHMX, KRBE, KOVE, KHPT, KKBQ, KHTC, KBXX, KILT, KSBJ, KLOL

Wow. "To(o) broad"? Thanks for providing Cumulus right. I loved the press release they sent out that said, "JACK FM is like running with scissors for radio-type people. JACK is everything Radio Mom told us not to do ... that's your new 103.7 JACK FM."

Here's a look at Jack-FM's 3:00 PM playlist:

3:00 Shining Star-Earth, Wind & Fire
3:03 Tumblin' Down-John Mellencamp
3:07 Mr. Whipple-Arrested Development

Commercial Break

3:23 Runaway Train-Soul Asylum
3:27 On the Dark Side-John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band
3:29 Crocodile Rock-Elton John
3:34 What You Need-INXS
3:37 Crazy-Gnarls Barkley
3:40 All Right Now-Free

I like it so far.. Now if I can here dance music 24/7 I'll be all set!

I know I said for sometime now I hoped Houston would never see the likes of Jack or Bob, but I gotta say, I dont hate it. Really I like it... alot. Its all I've listened to today. I find it interesting that Mark Landis (PD for the SA Jack) was the one who voiced the announcements before the flip. Wonder how that came to be?
