It called itself Jack but never had the variety that that format is supposed to have. It was always merely a classic rock station with no personalities, no local involvement.

and...............so what. what EVER is your point other than to be bitter cuz a jack station put u out of work

move on dude

Excuse me, gentleman. Jack in Indy was, in the beginning, more 80s-based than most ... and more lively and less Classic than many.
It seemed to be geared younger than most Jacks IMHO.

Also, Steppenwolf was never displaced by Jack! Give that a rest, please.
Well, he may have worked at JACK in the Box. Those cute Jack paper hats may have caused major damage, huh? :-[

Never worked at Jack In The Box. Only my current gig at Mickey D's where I use the name Steppenwich on the drive-up speaker. (Great suggestion, rf 1!)

then why in God's name do u bore us with your thrice-daily trashing of the JACK format???????????

Wait a minute, McStepphenwich, I believe I was the one who first gave you credit for your career at the Golden Arches.
I do need a damn life, huh?

Anybody wanna talk about Indy's Jack programming or is it just better to keep up the food fights?

Jack in Indy, like elsewhere, is not real radio. It's a jukebox. The 104.5 signal in Indy is very powerful. Cumulus needs to put something on it that'll generate an audience which in turn will generate revenue. Classic hits, not the classic rock that the station's still playing, is the answer.

Here's a good place to cite one group's examples of classic hits. On a Jack station one might hear Three Dog Night's "Joy To The World". However, that song was only one of many, many Top-40 hits for Three Dog Night. A Classic Hits station should also play "One", "Eli's Coming", "Easy To Be Hard", "Old Fashioned Love Song", "Celebrate", "One Man Band", "Out In The Country", "Family Of Man", "Shambala", "Black and White", "Pieces Of April". I maintain that a pop-oriented Classic Hits station would do very well.

the whole variety hits movement is SONG BASED, not artist based

Joy To The World is 3 Dog's **SIGNATURE** song, just sweet home bama is for skynyrd-- that's radio thinking that if they like a song by 3 dog nite they want to hear all of them

it is one of many things u do not get about jack-- it attracts audience and generates more revenue than they ever did w/oldies, a dying format with little future. whether it is a jukebox is only important to radio geeks not so much to listeners.

Hey u know I love u "RF1" but don't u think it's time for u to get over this whole Steppenwolf thing. ???

not sayin i'm better or not-just different. he seems to have no purpose other than to trash

It is interesting that so much attention is placed on the Jack format that is hated because it "WILL FAIL"...
and yet, now, so much love is given to the format of oldies (Three Dog ZZZ-night is more of an Oldies-based group and music style and not as much Classic Hits) that has all but already FAILED. But, that is
suddenly okay.

Talk about speaking out of both of the speakers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No station will get ratings worth a flip playing Three Dog Night marathons, or lots of similar music. I like TDN
for the most part, but audiences have grown tired or old (or both) and have p-r-o-g-r-e-s-s-e-d. It's not
about what WE like, anyway.

Am I in love with the Jack format? Sort of...

But, sadly not as much as I was originally. I admit it.

Do I see fading interest and cracks? Yes, I do.

It's been screwed by satellite, pinned on the mat when it should have not been and has
not be as proactive as I originally thought. Sorry, CJ, love ya still, but Jack was not about
stagnation or reason and yet it's still playing alot of the same playlist it rolled out with a
few years into the game. P1 listeners run back and forth to see what it's up to and skip
away...well, okay that makes them not P1's, but you know what I mean. It should be
tailored to a specific market and hit a target demo while beating up the biggest competitor.
Look at Nashville. Stagnation is happening, the love affair is over and not only has 105.9
The Rock been allowed to stay alive and kickin', but now Oldies has flipped to Classic Hits
and even though it's an average/or less/Cumulus run station, Jack could have been positioned
to prevent and take out both and Jack will erode into mediocrity. A crying shame, especially since
Wall's here in Nashille. What gives on the Jack front, CJ??? I still like the concept of Jack and
please, don't take this wrong. I want you to succeed and the format and concept to only grow.
Don't let the team bury their head's in the sand. The competition hasn't totally figured it all out.
I guess I am just to darned competitive. I know I am. But, I refuse to settle for less than I or
any format could possibly be. You started a great thing and I know you have tons of success,
but my success has been to stay way ahead and see the trains coming. I see status quo while
the sharks are circling here. CJ, any comments back would be appreciated. If I am off-base, let
me know. I know the numbers are still there, but it's #1 or it's how to get BACK or STAY #1 that
matters to me. How about you?

rf 1, the only thing I can figure about your posts is that you either have a friend or relative who works at a radio station because it's obvious that you yourself know nothing about radio.

There may be a 250 watt daytimer where you can get your first radio job, rf 1. Your responsibilities will include making coffee, taking out the trash, and making sure there's LP gas in the tank this winter.
