When it comes right down to it, does it really matter to anyone except radio geeks? I doubt it. The Commission certainly doesn't seem to care, and that's all that really matters when you get right down to it.

I've heard airchecks of when 102.7 and 1150 simulcast in LA. They IDed "KIIS FM and AM Los Angeles." I'm pretty sure legally it should have been "KIIS Los Angeles and KIIS-FM Los Angeles" but did they ever get fined for it? Not that I'm aware of.

I've also heard a lot of stations that simulcast on FM and AM just broadcast the call letters with no FM suffix - "WXYZ Anytown." I've never heard of anyone getting fined for doing that either.

I guess what I'm saying is if the Commission doesn't care, why should we?
When KRBE used to simulcast on 1070am in the 80s and early 90s. They always ID's as "KRBE FM and AM Houston", I never thought that was legal but I guess it was since they did it for so long.

Illegal, it was....."KRBE-FM Houston, KRBE Houston" would have been legal...MAYBE "KRBE-FM and KRBE Houston" but there is NO -AM suffix on any AM station callsign....and thus what they used was illegal....Just because people drive 90miles an hour down the highway and dont get CAUGHT doesnt make that legal either ;)

true dat :)

KKBQ had it right. "KKBQ-FM Pasadena, KKBQ Houston".

I miss that ID

As a radiogeek (thanks for the compliment, BTW), I certainly have noticed the failures of correct ID's in and around Houston. For the record, The Buzz ID's as KTBZ/Houston. It IS illegal as the call sign KTBZ is assigned to a sports station aka "The Buzz" in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Our Buzz should be KTBZ-FM/Houston. 93Q ID's as KKBQ/Pasadena-Houston, which is also illegal. KJOJ/Conroe didn't ID for nearly a week once they dropped Azucar for "El Norte". I posted it here on the boards, and lo and behold, now "El Norte" ID's as KIOX/El Campo, KQUE/Houston and KJOJ-AM Conroe. STILL illegal! Well at least they tried to ID KJOJ, I guess. We could keep on going but as a poster previously said, the Commish doesn't seem to care, even though he should.

>>>KKBQ had it right. "KKBQ-FM Pasadena, KKBQ Houston".<<<

Actually - It was KKBQ- FM/PASADENA - HOUSTON at first with their dual city ID. In fact, on very early Sunday mornings KKBQ - FM was required to broadcast a few hours out of their small Pasadena, TX studio.
They ran their Sunday PSA programs out of that location. The rest of the week was at 11 Greenway Plaza.

That's the what the FCC required them to do in the early stages of the old dual city ID's when the station wanted to move studios to the bigger city!
