Jack liners competition-bashing?

Well, WJMK has started taking shots at the competition in some of their liners. The biggest target is obviously WTMX (since SparkNet is suing Bonneville over the "whatever we want" positioner). In Chicago, Howard is calling morning team Eric and Kathy "dorks" and keeps saying that the Mix talks too much. Number 2 on the list is CC's WLIT, where they're using variations on the "Lite and sleepy elevator music" jabs that Bonneville used to make on the old Windy 100--with Howard saying in one sweeper "turn off the Lite, turn on Jack FM." And in the last couple of days, classic hits The Drive has come under Jack's scrutiny, mostly as being too "boring."

Admittedly, I haven't checked out the other stations enough to see if they were doing Jack-bashing, other than knowing that 'TMX had a "playing what you want" sweeper going and that on the Drive Bob Stroud began one of his Sunday "Rock and Roll Roots" shows with Ray Charles' "Hit the Road Jack" and a tribute to the 'JMK jocks. Do any of the other Jacks do competition-bashing and if so, is it basically the mainstream/hot/modern ACs that are their targets?

Jack liners

View this more as good-natured poking vs. any blatant bashing. It's all part of the "attitude" in the imaging.

What a neat concept- sticking it to the competition OVER THE AIR. Love it!

Has the Chicago Jack attack Nine FM yet? Jack can bash the competition, but I'll listen to what I want, not what Jack thinks I should listen. I'll stick to Nine FM for variety and WW1's Anything Goes weekend on my local Hot AC WZVN.

Don't worry once you get that roof-mounted Yagi twisted around just right, you should be able to hear it...kinda.

no kidding

Oh, for goodness sake- CHILL! What the heck is wrong with the world of radio today when some spirited on-air competition is taken so darn personally?

DUH- of course you'll listen to what you want. NEWS FLASH: "Jack" is not a person. It's OK for a radio station to have some attitude, some swagger. If you don't like it, don't listen. Just stop the whining about it.

Nine FM signal

oh, don't forget: you'll need one arm sticking straight out, plus you have to have the moon in the 7th house and Jupiter alighted with Mars <LMAO>

Jack in Jackson hasn't done any on-air bashing, but a while back, AC station WJKK (Mix 98.7) had a liner that said "Playing What You Want". They adopted it not too long after Jack came on the air.

I think sometimes us radio people get too excited when we put liners on the air. I don't think the average listener cares if Station A is saying "We Play What We/You Want." They just want to hear Elton John's Tiny Dancer.

As long as you play the hits, you will win.

My company's Classic Hits station here in Portland, Maine came in and took down the heritage Classic Rocker. Was it because we had clever sweepers, or the music was dead on? I'm guessing it's the music
