Jack NY has only 3 Days to live what will happen with Chicago's Jack?

WCBS FM is flipping back to oldies Thursday 1:01pm with Jack sent ito excile on HD2. With oldies and some of the WJMK jocks on 94.7, but Jack with horrible ratings what become of Chicago's Jack. What does Dan Mason and CBS do with WJMK. Fresh? or Go head to head with 94.7 with Oldies.

If Citadel doesn't change WZZN, CBS will not put oldies back on WJMK. But word is they might Fresh-en it up a little.

I am assuming CBS will look at all of their options - or maybe just keep Jack. Dan Mason was specific that decisions will be made market by market.

Maybe they felt the opportunity to flip to Classic Hits was better in New York than Chicago. They don't necessarily correlate (especially since WZZN is already doing Oldies).

Why do people automatically ASSUME that because something happened in New York, it will happen everywhere else.

Should they blow up "Jack" in L.A. too when it's No. 1 English 25-54 most of the time just because they blew up New York?

Wait a minute......are you saying certain formats perform differently in separate markets ??? This will certainly hurt your chances of becoming a bigwig at one of the monolithic media companies ;D

In an article by Forbes in which they speak with Dan Mason, they wrote the following which mention's Chicago's JACK...

In an interview Monday, CBS Radio President and Chief Executive Dan Mason cautioned against viewing WCBS' switch back to oldies as a reflection of listener fatigue with the Jack format.

He noted that CBS stations have enjoyed success with Jack in major radio markets such as Los Angeles, Dallas and Seattle. He also pointed out that the company expects to stick with the format at WJMK-FM 104.3 in Chicago even though listenership there still trails where it had been before it dropped its previous oldies format around the same time as WCBS.

For the rest, you can read it here - http://www.forbes.com/media/2007/07/09/radio-arbitron-wcbs-biz-media-cx-lh_0709wcbs.html

Seems WJMK/JACK FM will stick around for the forseeable future... you lucky dogs, you.

I don't, personally seeing anything happening in Chicago, regarding 104.3! I hope it flips, its such a boring station. And they already have Nine-FM.

Chicagos Jack

From what I hear CBS is going to leave JACK-FM 104.3 in Chiacgo alone for the time being. Right now CBS has bigger fish to fry.

Personally, Jack FM (or CKG) needs to be replaced with another Urban AC, so V-103 will not be the SOLE full powered Urban AC in Chicago. There is enough support in the market for it.

I think that they will bring back personalities on WJMK. On their personalities page on the oldies website, they always say "coming soon...." I hope they do, because I loved that station. I've been saying since they dropped the format over 2 years ago that they would bring it back, and New York's comeback just adds more fuel to the fire that is my argument.

Bringing personalities to WJMK will not get them out of the #17 slot 25-54. (And, by the way, WZZN has already replaced WJMK's Oldies format. It's not great but it's on-the-air).

The bigger questions might be how the folks at WCKG and WKQX can continue to be patient being ranked just above stations out of Aurora and Joliet? Pretty embarrassing.

anyways WJMK can't go back with the old DJ's Paul Perry is in Pennsylvania, i think. Greg Brown and Fred Winston fill in on WZZN which Greg will be filling in for Dick Biondi until next Thrusday if u want to hear him.

Would it hurt if CBS Radio put Fresh on either Free or Jack. Im sure the ratings would pull up a little. Also B 96 dropped some in the ratings that just came out. For it being the Summer I thought they would be up. Looks like CBS Radio needs to fix up Chicago, as they just got done with New York City.

Paul Perry is in Boston doing middays.

Anyway, WCBS in New York came back with some of its old DJ's, and added some new ones. That's why Greg Brown and Fred Winston could come back to WJMK, and they can add some new one's.

I have been listening to Greg the last couple of days, and he sounds great.

I think Greg should get a job at WZZN during the 10a-3p slot (which was his former slot at WJMK). Fred could do the 7p-9p slot, overnights, or weekends. Just a thought though...
