Not exactly. If anything, it's predominately 80s and 90s, with about two 70s songs per hour. Every now and then, you'll hear a 60s song, mostly from the Beatles.

Well, probably if someone in N.O. goes Jack, it won't be called "Jack".

As someone mentioned in a previous thread, Citadel just poured a ton of cash into promoting Diva, and I don't think they're willing to spend even more promoting a new format. Then again, they are flipping 103.3 to Diva here in BR supposedly so anything's possible.

Truth is, nothing against the person who started this thread, but I think they're just "jacking" us around. When two of your three posts are the one that started this thread and another one, I'm suspicious. Granted they could have just been a lurker, but still...

They promoted red as a clasic hits station even in R&R and competition for WDGL "eagle" 98.1 .... The real competition lasted about 2 weeks before playing stuff not on a normal classic hits station and sounds to be a wanna be..wanna be jack and wanna be classic hits.... could this be one reason b103 still around...(nice to dream:) but truthfully, pulled rock 93.7 for that station? Rock 93.7 if repositioned would be the one to go after 98.1 (Like one active rocker in MS. "the greatest and the latest")

I should of phrased it differently but yeah the epicenter would be at cc headquarters with most of NOLA looking like a repeat of hell night in Detroit....

Yep, The only one that isn't a rimshot into New Orleans or that isn't urban (we have 3 that are considered urban a/c..92.3,102.9,and 98.5)... 106.1 is a a/c that does get into New Orleans but is considered by some a rimshot even with it's upgrade (and a recent purchase by Citadel)...

Well if you go for normal demos yeah, espcially since oldies was blown out roughly 3 years ago out of Baton Rouge and blown away in other towns(and the only reason IMHO that TKL has ratings in BR).... But I have also seen parts of the sought after demo go to Kool also..espcailly since it's now playing more 70's and some 80's classics.

Kool however is the second choice most people use as a listen at work station second to LMG... Will killing Kool get people to listen to Jack? (depends if it's a chicago style Jack (more later stuff) or Jackson Jack (more gold based like TKL).... If TKL is the ultimate Jack..I'd say oldies based.

WTIX-FM is Costello's personal jukebox as they say. He rather program it with some of the more obscure songs from the 60's and 70s that other oldies stations shy away from... Technically that's probably why people in other towns love this station when they come here..It sounds like early 70s top40 radio IMO. My thing is will people go there to listen if TKL dies or will they find LMG (or even jack?)?

I'm just getting ready for the station that will play all thrash metal all the time ala KNAC:) LOL LOL LOL

why not just flip 690 back to oldies...it has a much greater range that 94.3fm. which i cant pick up here all the time. only 50 miles north of new orleans.
______________

I would have said WTKL, as well... but then I thought about it, and Entercom already has Bayou 105.3 as a Jack-inspired rock station aimed at men 25-54. Classic Hits-Hot AC (I'm still kinda weary of the term "Variety Hits" for some reason) in and of itself is aimed at men 25-54. They've already put resources into 105.3, so why would they throw that away so quickly?

If one of the big players is indeed making the move, I'd keep an eye out for WRNO becoming My 99.5, personally.

But then again... isn't this all just based on speculation in the first place?

that can't happen.........they are owned by two seperate companies, management is different etc....I think everyone is wrong....My 2 cents goes on WRNO flipping....Rod Ryan doesn't work on that format, rest of the day is a disaster...why blow up a solid station Persons 25-54?

If there's to be any flippin' goin' on in N.O.

I could see RNO being hi-Jacked and flipping 104.1 to active rock or alternative and moving Rod there.

Gives CC a chance to compete in both N.O. and B.R. with a rock format. And if they went that route, it wouldn't hurt any of their clustermates in either market. And B.R. would promote that, the cluster ran cross promos for 104.1 The Fox.

And it wouldn't be the first time RNO's seen a flip. Anyone remember 99.5 The River? Or the infamous Z-Rock days? The Rock of New Orleans lost that luster a long time ago.

they are owned by two seperate companies but that wouldnt stop them from going oldies if they wanted to. the mighty 690 wtix...about wrno. its a cc station. i just dont see it happening. playlist would be too wide for cc..
______________

Rod was put there cause he was the only one that could have pulled listeners from other rock stations (Other than former or current Gulf Coast jocks and Howard Stern, NOLA rock radio is weird about mornings in that they don't like outsiders (IE Bob and Tom) IMO) plus working for CC helps ton loads....

Same 400 songs day in day out... worked for years... 105.3 showing they need a new game plan? (I don't have access to daypart breakdown to see if 105.3 is keeping it's gains or not)...

Some have hinted at a agreement when CC and wilks swapped KKND and WRNO not to program the others format for a certain time.... Wilks is dead, now is Citadel ..They could lawyer it but if 106.7 flips (Gospel is doing better than KKND is right now...the jury is still out on what Citadel will do with new purchase WKSY) CC I think could flip one of them and take care of business...IF DONE RIGHT (CC see 103.7 in Hattiesburg for help..as this station is a cc owned active rocker)

Yeah but this would be a first not playing mainly rock? They have had other things on 99.5 during the Costello days but it was still a core rock station or classic hits... Imagine Busta Rymes on 99.5 like it was on WCBS?

Does anyone think Costello might be considering the JACK up? I base this theory on the following...

- If the real Jack is coming to nola, it might be good note that in some previous JACK flips, the ownership has been independents or small broadcasting corporations, not major Corporate America Radio folks.

- The real Jack is a jockless set up, could allow Costello to save on voice traking and allow current talent to pick up gigs elsewhere, which probably would have takers considering the current talent their are Nola radio legends.

- With a four decade playlist, Costello could expand TIX reach to younger demos while retaining some of current listner base.

In the end Costello benefits, only having to sell slots, and wathcing the profits roll in as TIX becomes a Nola top 10 player. Plus it gives TIX a good future base by adding younger listners to its demos.

Rod CANNOT be put on any station that would compete with KKND, so not active/alt. rock. So you must re-think some of your thoughts. I'm a pro, so I will not make any negative comments about my competition on here, not saying I won't make sarcastic comments, but the "JACK" thing is a subjective format. It can be adapted based on reaserch in that market and can vary, like a rock based JACK or a mainstream JACK. You do have to keep in mind, if that is the road your going to take, you do a good job laying it out so you can take the station in one direction or another if it turns out to be the flavor of the year format like the CC all 80's deal that worked for about 10 seconds then people realized they didn't like AH-HA in 84 and they really don't want to hear it 40 times a week now.
