Jack steps back for 9/11...

101.1 Jack FM is going commercial-free and acoustic from 8:45am-2pm on 9/11. They will also hold two moments of silence at both 8:46 and 9:03am, the times of when each tower was struck.

I haven't been listening to the radio too often, so I might have missed it, but is any other radio station doing anything special programming-wise for 9/11?

Can anybody record that to mp3 file or something?

A More Fitting step back would be to bring back Harry Harrison, Randy Davis,Dan Daniel, Bill Brown, Bob Shannon and Bobby Jay for the day and have them play oldies Just as WCBS FM sounded on 9/11/2001.

And while you're at it, put Howard Stern back on 92.3 for the day, or.... No it ain't gonna happen. One would hope the (radio) world has moved on, CBS did. I know JACK isn't for everyone, but they are positioning themeslves for the future. Why keep something that in time will lose audiance? JACK can and will evolve to be part of their core audiance.

I am sure with the right imaging, it will sound great. I would much rather listen to that, than endless jocks talking about it. Even though I live in Australia, I will be listening. I'm sure it would be a fitting tribute, better than TEASING listeners.

Jack is not working in New York the Only reason it is still on the air is that Joel and Les Hollander haver thir reputations invested in this format beining on 101.1. If Sumner Redstone or Les Moonvesever was to ever rid of the Hollanders Jack would be gone soon after.

Dude, you have got to move on. Bringing back oldies for one day in honor of 9/11 makes no sense, I understand your passion for oldies but it's gone. Even if they flipped it back it would not be "CBS FM". It would be something else even if they hired Cousin Brucie and all of those old coots back again, it just would not be the same thing again. It's gone (not saying that is a good or bad thing ) but it's gone and that is reallly the end of it.

In regards to my original post, I was under the assumption that there will be two moments of silence. Having listened to Jack all day yesterday, I didn't hear a mention of two. Just of the one at 8:46.

I'll be listening again all day today (at work) and if I hear something different, I'll be sure to post when I return later tonight.

If anyone else hears different, feel free to update!

I'll be recording Jack tomorrow morning... since I'll be at school during that time. If anyone wants the recording, let me know. I'll be more than happy to share.

if you keep dreaming about CBS FM going back to oldies...then can I sell u a piece of the brooklyn bridge. get over your OLD School thinking and living in the past. Move on already. OLDIES is not happening...and WHO cares ???

Yes... that would be a huge step BACKWARD... :-\

JACK-FM is here to stay and will, if given a chance, do better. There are planty of smaller stations in the country playing oldies.

Oldies are not coming back to 101.1 but Jack is not here to stay. It gets a 1.7 rating. The only reason 101.1 has no flipped to another new format is that Joel and Les Hollander would have to admit they were wrong about Jack in New York they have invested them selves to muchthe fate of the Jack format to do that.

While we're at it why don't we bring back WPEN in Philly because the "Philadelphians" had to watch the horror of 9/11 on their televisions and now their music is gone too. Come on now!!! I too enjoyed CBS-FM and their run but the time to move on is NOW! WE the LISTENERS are NOT involved in programming decisions so unfortunately all you disgruntled oldies fans will have to stick to the CD's, 45's, and Cassettes for YOUR MUSIC! Also smack yourself in the face to bounce back into REALITY!

Phewwwwwwwwwww

What JACK decided to do today is COMMENDABLE and did not go unnoticed on this end. Well Done JACK ;)

How is CBS exploiting 9/11 in a pathetic attempt to gain some attention for Jack commendable?

Exploitation? I think not. If LITE did it, you (and dare I say most others on this board) would most likely have congradulated them, but because you are bitter about JACK (and/or CBS), you chose to be a synic.

Here here. I quite enjoyed listening to it. On another subject, how is JACK doing in 25-54? I know 12+ ain't too flash, but I would say there target demo is a little better, am I right?

When they tossed that first mention of it on the air - that first call for you to listen Monday - they crossed a very precious line. Exploitation? I think so. I'd congratulate no one who chose to exploit 9/11 for any type of gain. By the way, I'm a fan of the station. I just thought this little promotional stunt was in very poor taste.

1.7 HUH....Thats lame.If my memory serves me right WYNY in its last year was at a 2.2 share and climbing.,and they ditched it.Radio execs are like creatins.....no sense for what is good or bad.

WALK included one 9/11 bumper per hour followed by an appropriate song - "Hero", "Superman (It's Not Easy), "One Sweet Day"

Several patriotic classics also played throughout the day - "God Bless the USA", "America the Beautiful".

Moments of silence in the morning as well.

So how is playing acoustic music "exploiting 9/11", but completely destroying the format for one day for, lets be honest, completely selfish reasons not?

Just curious. I think the very fact that there are even implications about 9/11 and Oldies on CBS is starting to show you folks to be the Cindy Sheehans of the radio world.

I never called for something as foolish as playing oldies.

B-103 in Long Island, WMTR 1250 AM in Morristown, NJ and WBPM "Cool 92.9" in Saugerties, NY are still playing oldies, but WABC still has the Saturday Night Oldies show with Mark Simone heard every Saturday Night playing 4 hours of nothing but oldies. That's what you'll going to hear oldies on WABC Saturday night.
