Jammin 105.9 changing over to hip hop?

I noticed today Jammin 105.9 is playing current Hip hop. Hopefully to go against Hot 93.

I agree, I listened to it more than any other station, though I wish they actually did more with it like have DJ's and Mix Shows on the weekend. Honestly I wish they would have gone toward more of a Rythmic Dance Format since they were not doing anything with it anyways but owell... They are leaning heavy on hip hop and have not been playing slow jams or R&B.

Jammin was dead a long time ago, they should of flip it a long time ago. Now maybe they can put Hot 93 in better comp since 105.9 is a city grade signal.

Well then what in the world is going on? They are not quiet dead yet. They are back to their old format this morning.... ???

I noticed that they were playing the old format also, weird.

And isn't CC supposed to be selling that frequency anyways? Why would they change the format if they are going to sell it? Whoever is going to buy it would obviously change the format to whatever they want.

they probably trying a new format to see how that format works, quite possible putting the hip pop muisc on thier weakest ratied station. probably 102.3. that's only a quess.

If the plan is to bring 93.3 down a notch, that would be similar to what's happening in San Antonio. Univision switched its lowest performing FM to active rock to try to scrape a few listeners off high-flying KISS (the real K.I.S.S.) Univision hasn't invested much in programming, just playing the same music as KISS.

good theory but then again....

Austins Hip Hop scene is so watered down. Also besides that.. a jockless rock station in San Antonio is one thing... a jockless Hip Hop station in Austin is quite another.

I am skeptical. Although I would be all for a good stick station give hot 93 some good direct competition. not just half A competition with a station that didnt even reach the entire city the the beat austin had.

I totally agree, 93.3 without a challenge will go to the upper tier of Austin radio stations, since the station (105.9) is due to be sold, CC without a vested interest in it, can trash the Jammin format and foil the growth potential of 93.3. Smart move, if they do it. CC would be protected themselves from another big player taking cash from them because of numbers.

Jammin 105.9 flipped again back to Hip Hop at 7. A friend of mine told me CC may be just playing hip hop at night from 7PM to Midnight which is when they went back to Rythmic AC lastnight possibly to see how the ratings pick it up??? They could also be stunting for a few days before they flip totally to hip hop... :-\

do you see them as flipping hip hop 100% of the time???

In my opinion I dont want to see them flip to all hip hop.  Either way they are back to playing Rythmic AC so my friend's theory seems right on the money.

I personally like KLTO better than KISS, KISS talks way to much. I like to hear music.

Leave it to Clear Channell to screw everything radio up that was one of the stations I would try and pull in from San Antonio since I don't listen to San Antonio's stations anymore except for 1200 WOAI. I always enjoyed listening to that station sad how the austin market is going down to

I hardly listen to Austin radio much any more. KVET is ok BobFM is ok, I usually listen to either KUT or KCTI or KLTO now. And the rest I podcast from the Internet on diffrent shows and dance music etc.... I think Hot93 is over rated. I almost never listen to them any more. I like KBBT a LOT better than Hot. I hope Jammin would turn to hiphop and take them out.

When 105.9 does play hip hop, they pretty much play the same songs that 93.3 plays...which are wack! That's why, in my opinion, the new format on this station won't last long either. Maybe the Austin "Hip-POP" and R&B (Repeated & BullS#!&) stations should take notes from Houston, Dallas, and even Killeen. Their HIP-HOP and R&B stations always have high ratings...not like 93.3 or 104.3/9 when it was on air...check the ratings. It's because they don't play the same 15 songs repeatedly, they throw in a new song or something that you having heard in a while, they actually play music that people like, and the songs that they play on mix shows are actually in rotation during the day also!! AUSTIN HIP HIP RADIO NEEDS TO STEP THEIR GAME UP!!
