JAMN' 94.5 - THE EARLY DAYS

Ironically I don't think I've ever even heard Marley on the station in the 20 years or so I've been listening, as Jamn' or Z-94.

Fittingly, I remember hearing Bob Marley's "Jammin'" quite a few times in that 1995/96 time frame. The station sounded really great back then, I was a P1 listener from then until 1998/99 when the music scene nationally began leaning toward East Coast hip-hop acts that never really appealed to me.

Truth be told Jam'n received my vote for best radio station of 1995! Then in '96 they went much more hip hop like they are now.
I dont think Jamn became a Hip hop station, until WBOT ( 24 hour Wild Thang, Hot 97.7 in 1998 ) sign on .

By then, Casey was hosting "Casey's Top 40."
Casie hosted "American Top 40" until about ??? late 90s, 2001ish?? These days (2008) he continues to host "American Top 20" <<<HOT AC

It wasn't officially "American Top 40" that he hosted though, from sometime in the late 80s until the late 90s. I remember Kiss 108 was carrying Rick Dees' Weekly Top 40 until Casey's was once again called "American Top 40," and then they swiched over to that. 92 Pro FM also carried the "Casey's Top 40" countdown during those years that it wasn't "American Top 40."

Jamn used tp play a comedy rap dance song called " Funk That ". That song was so funny. I dont remember who sing this song.

I always liked the part of the song that goes:

Question: why is it every time I turn on the radio, I hear the same 5 songs in a row over and over for 3 months? Funk that, get a new DJ!

You all remember "Street Jams" with Paco Lopez? It was syndicated through "Superadio Network" and was on Sundays 7pm-Midnight

Well, it all started with "Open House Party" with John Garabedian (Superadio Network) Then around 1993, Joh's Sunday Night "Open House Party" seguwed to "Street Jams" then, about foor-five months later Paco Lopez Became the host. This show lasted about ??? 1993-2001? It was the BOMB!!!!!!!

If I'm not mistaken, Paco Lopez is now on Entercom's Snap 94.1 from Memphis, TN?

@Rapking and Jayday on your radio, "Funk Dat By Sagat" is on "Youtube" I'm listenning to that now, hahaha. I was in my senior year of highschool when this song came out, thank you for reminding me of that song

I actually remember when Jam'n started sounding better than Kiss 108. This was back when Pyramid just taken over the station. The irony of all this is that they (Pyramid) by their own admission considered blowing up the station back in the beginning because of its initial medicore ratings under AK Productions?

Oh your post just made me remember that right before the flip to Jamn, there was a rumour going around that 94.5 would instead flip to alternative, to take on WFNX (this was back when WBCN was still playing Clapton and The Doors)

Hard to believe that this same station was the once invincible WCOZ "94 and a half, C-O-Z, Kick ass rock and roll!". I kinda miss it. But, the problem with 'COZ under Sebastian was that it was too repetitive, too liner card-ish and had no personality. Sure they got the fast buck with astronomical ratings (at first), but it got pretty old, pretty quick. Eventually it was all over within two years. In early '84, "The Best Show in Boston" AC format was pretty good but it was never given a chance to grow. Within six months, in September, 1984, 94.5 morphed into WZOU, "Boston's Zoo". How original ;).

I personally don't venture to 94.5 all that much these days........ "but my kid listens to it" :D

The way I see it, any station that gave out rolling papers with their station logo on them was A-OK by me! WCOZ did.....

Of course, today that would be a crime. After all, the Massachusetts Government is our NANNY!

Kid Valentine did nights for a short time after the flip before he moved to Dallas.

I have an aircheck of him backselling Come Baby Come from summer 1993.

Ah yes, I almost listed Kid Valentine for the nighttime slot, however I thought he had moved on as soon as ZOU flipped to Jamn'.... thanks for clearing that up, and I would LOVE to hear that aircheck! :)

*A note on afternoons: I believe that Tom Jefferies (in his second stint at the station) was the last regular afternoon drive host for WZOU before th flip to Jamn'.

And Kid Valentine dropped the Kid from his name and ended up doing PM drive ok KIIS in LA too! I knew he was going places!

Would it? The papers are to be used for tobacco, right? ;D

I have to say that Sagat was right about that statement!
