After Midnight used to play Dance/Club Mixes of Country songs, and so did the Bear. Bring back The bear and QKC.
The Bear also used to play 'Exclusive Bear Tracks"...their version of Album Cuts. Still remember Sawyer Brown - Big Picture...never was a hit but it sounded great on The Bear.

Probably true that WFMS isn't out much lately, but very few stations are out like they used to be. That requires promotion people and/or enough on-air people to make it possible.

They also require advertisers that want to pay them to come out and do those remote broadcasts! Radio advertising just isn't in demand like it was a few years ago.

Radio stations used to do stunts/events/promotions that got attention regularly. That doesn't happen much now, but it's understandable. Owners are are still making money, but not the amount they are used to, so operating budgets have been slashed. The problem wouldn't be so bad without all the debt most operators have. It's happening with the whole country; too many people owing too much money.

Most of the big promotional stunts were done with the involvement of a big sponsor. Those "Trip a day in May" stunts were usually done with the help of an airline and a hotel chain. With airlines having to practically be bailed out to stay afloat, they're not willing to give seats away. A special on American Airlines that aired, I believe, on A&E last year stated they lose money on every flight that's not full. Hotels have seen similar drops in business. Those car giveaway promotions were usually sponsored by a local car dealer who would help defray the cost of the new vehicle. Other sponsors would also often help out, thus making the cost to the station minimal. When it comes to car dealers, the only thing you have to know is the word "bailout." The auto industry bailout and bankruptcies have hurt dealers badly. Car dealerships and banks were the two biggest buyers of radio ads for years prior to the bailouts.

So, yeah, not to having the promotions people pounding the streets to get really cool promotions is a liability. It's not, however, the main cause of the problem. It's really more of an effect of not having the advertising revenue the industry had even a few years ago.
