Jay Leno To Appear On "Oprah" Today (1/28)

A friendly DVR/TiVo alert for those interested in the big brouhaha in which Conan was "forced out" of the "Tonight Show" by Jay - as it is appearing to most... Now Jay is going to jump on Oprah's couch and say that is not true!

Leno has to "tell his side of the story," says Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman, "and remind people why they liked him in the first place, and what it was that made him No. 1 in late night for a decade-and-a-half."

And, says Kauffman, while Leno took it on the chin from other comics, he vows to carry on, telling Winfrey, "It's like being a fighter: You get punched in the head. Does it hurt? Yeah, but you're a fighter..."

I feel so sorry for Leno.

I have gone through boxes and boxes of tissue sobbing over his problems.

So he is worried about his image..........Did he worry about his image when he helped to sink Carson?

He has a Pyrrhic Victory....

Jay welcome to the burned out ashes of the Tonight Show.

Sounds like a much better Oprah show than yesterday. I didn't see it but Alicia Silverstone was on there and they two of them were talking about pretty gross subject matter.

It may just finally come out real soon as to how Leno orchestrated 'the yank the mat from under Conan's feet' from the get-go. Of course He hasn't talked to Conan, Conan knows Leno stabbed him in the back.

This is going to be Leno's 'Chappaquiddick'. Ted Kennedy was never able to get the White House, mainly due to the Chappaquiddick scandal. Leno will never become the number show again for his Conan scandal.

Leno had to know how bad his numbers were at 10pm. He knew. He simply called Zuckers personal phone number and said, "Look my numbers on the Tonight Show were way better than O'Briens. Let me back at 11:30 and I will bring back the numbers and keep the profits."

Conan will never do a guest spot on The Tonight Show.

Of course all of the above is my own opinion.

I thought it was interesting that Leno said the affiliates were complaining about Conan too. I haven't seen one story about this, or heard from anyone I know working at an NBC affiliate that they were unhappy with Conan. It seems to me they would be more concerned about the lead in programming for their late local news (Leno) and the ratings challenges being faced in prime time. It's also interesting that he said this would have been the first time in the 60-year franchise of the Tonight Show that would have seen it lose money. If I recall, there's a story that's been done, or being done about this claim...saying that the only way it would lose money in such a short period of time is if NBC is factoring in the new studio and office complex built for the Tonight Show (which was NBC's decision...not Conan's).

Leno seems to be either stretching the truth or perhaps not telling the truth at all. I don't ever like to say that I'd like to see someone fail, but I hope Letterman's ratings hold up, Nightline and Kimmel continue to grow, and a Conan premiere on Fox in September that never looks back.

The question now is this -- if Leno's Tonight Show numbers fail, and as a result the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon numbers are lower than average, will they then give Leno both shows? I wouldn't put it past NBC...and if Leno wants it, I wouldn't put it past Leno either.

So Jay attempted to divert attention onto Conan...AGAIN?!

I think that Leno may eventually regain the #1 spot.

The General Public has a short memory for this kind of thing.

But the point is, I really don't care who is #1 Late Night..... it's like deciding who is going to be the king on a a pile of C***!

Embedded flash object links don't work on this board unfortunately. Here is the link to what you posted:

I think Leno did just the opposite of what he was trying to do. He just dug his hole even deeper.

Letterman said it best. When you get replaced you go and get another gig.

Leno never thought to ask Conan what he thought about getting bumped back to 12:05 because he didn't care!

Just like Leno never went to Howard Stern before he took one of his guys (Stuttering John). In Jay's world you don't ask. You just do it. He really doesn't care. That is now causing him some problems in the PR department. Lots of people have changed their opinion of Leno because of how this whole thing went down. Oprah took a poll and 96 percent of people sided with Conan. 96 PERCENT. That's HUGE!

Jay's biggest problem is himself right now. He had a chance at taking the higher ground and just leave. It is well known that the guy doesn't need the money. He doesn't even touch his Tonight Show checks. He puts them in the bank and just lives off the money from his stand up gigs. So if anybody is in a perfect position to take the higher ground it would be Jay. But he chose to go a different route. Now we see the public backlash of that decision. Jay gets to feel it.

And Conan asked Jay how he felt about being kicked out of the 11:35 slot five years ago? Did he care?

Please, he's no victim here.

All you people pointing fingers back and forth at Conan and Leno are missing the real villain here: Jeff Zucker!

Fact of the matter is that neither Conan nor Leno drew the ratings in the timeslots in which they were placed. I generally like them both, but neither were guaranteed to be able to stay in those timeslots if they couldn't draw audiences there.

And for me, on central time, if Conan had agreed to be pushed back half an hour, he still would have been on at 11:05 p.m., so it still would have been "Tonight" for me.

Jay is really fooling himself if he thinks that he's going to make a big joke about coming back to The Tonight Show in March. The true jokes in this one are Jay and Jeff Zucker who both basically threw Conan to the curb and not the other way around. When Jay told Conan that he could have The Tonight Show so that he could have his own show at 10:00, that should have been it, but when Jay Leno's show flopped at 10:00 PM, Leno played the victim and Conan played the fool and the end result being Jay got back The Tonight Show while Conan got the shaft and the millions from NBC and possibly says Hello to FOX in the fall. And Jay is being the crybaby and crying to Oprah and whoever else listens and playing poor me baby while he laughs at Conan behind his back and he counts his millions in the bank.

Here's my prediction about this mess: The Tonight Show, Jay Leno and Jeff Zucker will all become history by the end of the year or sooner because Letterman will pounce all over them in the ratings and Conan will if he goes to FOX and then who'll have the last laugh.

Enjoy your stay at NBC while it lasts, Jay.

I think Jay will get the ratings back eventually and everything will be fine at NBC. The public has a short memory. For me a lot of times who I watch depends on the guests they have. Now if Hollywood boycotts Jay then it's all over but I doubt that will happen.

I'm with you on Leno and Zucker, but not on The Tonight Show. It's still too big a brand name and has had too long a run to just sweep under the rug. If NBC were willing to pull a long-standing show because of dropping ratings and low quality, then "Saturday Night Live" would have disappeared at least 20 years ago.

Instead they'll find a new host, probably someone we're not expecting, and give the show to him (or, more likely, her) to reinvent much like they gave it to Jack Paar and then Johnny Carson. For all we know, this time next year we could all be watching The Tonight Show With Ellen Degeneres!

And if that fails, then they'll just lather, rinse, repeat, and start again. Steve Allen only hosted for three years, and Jack Paar for 5. Decade-long runs might end up being the exception and not the rule.

You think people won't somehow remember that this is the second time Jay Leno has manuevered to get control of The Tonight Show? I certainly do, and I'm not that old.
