Jay Severin Returning To Boston

He is married to a woman named Renee (though he denied it when he started his national show--someone asked him "how your lovely wife Renee is doing" and he said "I don't know who you're talking about"). I believe he admitted to his marital status in an interview just before the national gig started.

Here is Jay with the woman he has never apparently known, if his on-air shtick is to be believed.
(I guess Howie is lying, too, about his marriage to Cathy and his three daughters--had two daughters
from first marriage...Don't all those talk show hosts lie about their personal lives?)

And they have a daughter. I guess they're all moving, it's said, to my part of the State, the North Shore.
That "swingin' single" that Jay portrays himself as being...

From DCrtv.com:
"No More Severin On 106.7 - 9/26 - Radio And Records reports that Jay Severin, who has hosted a national show syndicated by Westwood One for the past year* , will return to hosting a daily live and local afternoon drive show exclusively for Boston talker WTKK effective 10/9. So, that must mean no more low-rated Severin from 8 PM to 11 PM on WJFK-FM. No word on his replacement at the CBS talker. Peter Rosenberg's name has not been mentioned. With Severin's new gig at WTKK, DCRTV hears that former WMAL talker Michael Graham gets bounced from afternoon drive to evenings at the Boston station..."

Well, he may have gotten low ratings elsewhere but has done well in Boston... The * refers to the fact that
"the past year" is slightly inaccurate. From January to September is not quite one full year.

...though in a Sept '05 interview with the Globe, Severin said he'd have no reason to stop broadcasting from his Sag Harbor home.

"''Why would I leave?" he says. ''I'm in a 200-year-old house surrounded by water and I'm in a barn that's been converted into a broadcast studio. I roll out of bed every morning and I'm able to surf and kayak. I've worked hard. I'm the beneficiary of technology I don't understand."

So maybe we'll Jay walking around Old Town Marblehead soon, or catching a movie at the Cabot St. in Beverly,
or strolling around Rockport...or...maybe...not... (though I guess the $$$$ Greater Media is paying him might
lead him to buy a house around here....)

Does he not get that a man in his 50's who is unmarried is not usually thought of as a swinging cat, they're usually thought of as probably GAY. He would be better off if he didnt try to push the "im a wild and crazy swinging guy" charade and be the normal, middle aged, married, New york, conservative Republican. it is clear that he is. THAT does not mean he has to make an issue of his marital status on the air but the act doesn't work and it's worn pretty thin. Looking at this picture he does have that sort of lounge singer thing about him.

VERY glad to hear that Severin is returning. He was a great alternative to Howie. There's room here for both of them.

What's this about him moving to Massachusetts, though? I know he plays the persona of a swaggering single guy on the air, but didn't I read in Talkers or someplace that he has a family on Long Island?

he had a marriage licesne issued by the state of ny last century. maybe it got deleted in the y2k scare.

Hmm--his wife hails from Glastonbury CT, home town of Laura Ingraham (from the NY Times query). Yup folks, he's in his mid-50s, though those listening on the radio might think he's younger, or he tries to make himself sound younger. (Howie, on the other hand, has several times revealed his age--10 years older than me. He'll be
55 in January.)

what's more annoying - wtkk website countdown clock to jay's return or the fact that his marriage notice in ny times says that he received a master's from bu?

Jay's views, statements, and controversies (including the Pulitzer claim) are taken apart by an opponent of his at http://www.jayseverin.org

the most annoying thing about jay on his old wtkk show was his intro -- "hellooooo, shhhhweeeet shweeet boston!". if that didn't make you turn the dial to howie, glenn, npr, or boring news on wbz then....

What's more annoying than that is that his return falls on my berfday...UGH.

I may not agree with him politically but Jim Braude's voice is more pleasant to the ears (to me) than Jay's. GM has put a lot of money into bringing Jay "home" and they did get some ratings wins when he was in that slot,
to be sure.

>>his return falls on my berfday

COLUMBUS: So, I guess we have a deal (for this land), then! Let's go to the bank and sign the papers.

INDIAN CHIEF: Can't go to bank. Bank closed.

COLUMBUS: Closed?

INDIAN CHIEF: (It's) COLUMBUS DAY...

agree there, but braude is on that station for 1 hour a day, and guys like im-ass, severino and graham are on for 11.

imagine wtkk's dilema when im-ass finally croaks - will the new morning show be a cnn feed or msnbc feed from 6 to 10?

Buying a house on the North Shore doesn't mean he is going to abandon his house in Lawng Gisland, move his family or even himself into it.

Does Jay own any poloponies yet ;).
Well, that neighborhood is already Bleidted. What's there to lose.

>>J. Severino is more likely.

James Thompson Severino, paisano...maybe he COULD buy Bleidt's house in Manchester-by-the-Money who knows.

I agree even though Braudie has a whiney thing about him in his voice Severin, maybe it is the cadence of his speech, the tamber of his voice, and of course the use of large, obscuure vocabulary words to create the illusion of intellect. The haughty way he talks, it's annoying becauuse I think we all know it is a put on. He's not out in his favorite eatery in Sag Harbor ordering using that pretentious, over enuciated voice, ya' just know it aint happening.
