Jeff and Jer to KyXy

Rick Fay said:
It's exciting to have Jeff and Jer back, but hope they make some changes. They've had 17 months to think about how to re-energize the show. Sadly, having the same cast back won't help much, but maybe... just maybe they'll add some excitement back to their show.

I think they will bomb terrifically. They are over the hill from a bygone era of radio.

Reheated leftovers often don't taste as well as they did the first time.

Plus where are they going to put Jeff and Jer at it took a studio that was 20x40 at KMYI and a news booth and production room! The KyXy studio is 10x15ft with a news booth thats 6x10ft. Either there has been alot of dieting during the break or someone had better be ready to swage alot of people into some REALLY tiny space.

They didn't have much more space than that at the old Y95, or whatever it was when they started in San Diego.

That's not leftovers; that's your foot.

They were just about as "over the hill" at Star...and seemed to do pretty well.

This will be bigger than one of the Charlie and Harrigan comebacks!

Hope this studio is up to their standards...remember their jabs at management for "broadcasting from a storage unit on Kearney Villa Rd."??

I remember that it was a tongue and cheek term of endeerment. I wouldn't blame them for being unhappy, since that wasn't the location when they moved to Q106. Having
worked at the "mini storage" studio, they were being very kind, in my opinion.

So the current morning show is out on a Disney cruise this week. I suppose that just before they announce the new JnJ show, CBS will announce that coincidently the Disney ship disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle and Little Tommy's first duty as producer of the new KYXY morning showgram will be to organize a memorial service for the old morning show. Jerry will then announce that thankfully no animals were harmed when the ship sank, Laura will say "I'll drink to that," and Jeff will wonder out loud, "What are we doing in this dumpy studio?'

Or so I've heard...

Radio-darn, why do you keep flooding the boards with so many negative jabs at Jeff and Jer?

Satire, I love good satire - or is it sarcasm? I can never remember the difference. I like to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. I watched too much of Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes. Aging white guys who come out on stage in Sergeant Pepper jackets invite witty commentary. This is radio, hard to take seriously.

If I can think of other reasons I'll let you know, and thanks for asking ;)

There sure seems to be some animosity towards Jeff and Jer on this board, though I still can't figure out how widespread that actually is in the market.

Me, I'm happy for 'em.

Jeff Detrow is from here...he and his brother started his career way back at the old WWST AM & FM in Wooster, OH (southwest of Cleveland), today's WQKT/104.5 and WKVX/960.

Jeff and his brother, better known as AP Radio News morning anchor Jon Belmont, have still done voice work gratis for their old radio home.

(As the story goes, one or both brothers may have changed their names on-air because management thought "Detrow" sounded too much like "death row". I believe Jeff at least used to be known as Jeff Elliott.)

I don't know Jeff at all, but Jon has been a reader of the blog, and seems like a very decent guy from my limited contact with him.

Anyway, I'm happy for Jeff, and hope things go well for him.

I know! Maybe some of these posters are actually posers working for... another morning show or station group? Hm?

Gene Knight going to 7-12pm with Love Songs. Help cheer up Jerry by requesting Debbie Boones' "You Light Up My Life" , every night!!! :)

Gene Knight bounced to nights? What a waste of true and home-grown talent. What are they doing with Sonny and Sam?

Yeah, I hate seeing Gene doing nights, too, but it could be worse - Bob B. could have easily blown out Sonny and Susan, or Gene. But they continue to have employment at what has been one of the most stable stations in town. It's hard to fault that kind of management.

Gene has been one of my best friends in radio. I think he'll do fine in mornings. I've seen him work every shift, morning, midday, afternoon, even overnight. I think he'll do GREAT in the evening. Kyxy has a nice lineup. The previous morning show is going to afternoons.

Gene Knight was good as Gene Knight in the night time on B-100. they just need to get rid of the love songs and have party at night with Gene knight.
