Wow! This is some big news! Cost cutting?
How does replacing one guy with another guy cut costs?RealityBites said:Wow! This is some big news! Cost cutting?
I thought Jeff was more of a sales/marketing/business guy, and I thought his stations were doing well overall? What does it mean that Jeff didn't have any magic? And what weaseldom?Tek said:CBS is desperately looking for someone with magic. Jeff certainly didn't have any. I guess corporate weaseldom only gets you so far. Let's see what Roy has. They'll have to learn to deal with his weirdness and his many conflicts of interest. Maybe Roy is getting out of KDAY just in time. When they split the 93.5 stations that have been synchrocasting for the last 5 years on 8/18, they will go back to jamming each other, like in the bad old days. Let's also see who else will be leaving 5670 Wilshire with ther stuff in a box...

I'm just curious, is it clear that Federman was fired rather than he opted to resign? Is it possible he was doing well, he gave CBS Radio an ultimatum that he wanted a raise or else he would walk, CBS wouldn't give it to him, thus the personnel change? I'm just not sure why it's so clear to everyone that CBS fired him.HelloUnEmPloyedPeople said:That was a post before Roy was announced
guess is the sales % just wasnt being met.

Re: "Is it possible he was doing well..."? The answer is no. Not possible. Your hypothesis also suggests that the person who replaced him would only have been hired had Jeff not given an ultimatum. That too is an unlikely scenario.

Didn't the NY people decide that KLSX should die?jeff federman said:Now that my deal is finally over with CBS, I can explain, for my own piece of mind why I left CBS last August (2008). I called a meeting with CBS Radio Corp in NY July of 2008. Yes, I called the meeting and flew to NY. I was not feeling good about how we were running the market and how some of the key decisions had been taken out of my hands (like pricing and DOS selection). Not saying they were wrong decisions, but just decisions I didn't believe in at the time (nor do now). When I left my NY meeting, I knew it would be a month or two before I was asked to leave. Simply put, a difference in philosophy. Neither right or wrong on anyones part just a difference of opinion on how to run the market. I graciously excepted the offer to consult for a year with no hard feelings at all. I was VERY proud of my tenure at CBS pre and post Stern. JACK FM launch, KNX back to the news leader, biggest billing cluster in the country, KROQ biggest billing station in the world two years in a row, great talent, always 3 of the top 6 stations in the market both revenue and ratings, etc. etc..
So "no magic?" Not sure that really describes what I and most radio executives would call an amazing run and one that has not yet been duplicated in any form by the current structure in LA (although Ed is a great guy and will rally the troops). While this post is coming very, very late (over a year), I just wanted to set the record straight now that I can.
Thanks
