Jeff Tiberii

If Jeff Tiberii can move from one radio job to another, then God bless him and more power to him.

There's nothing better than nameless online posters critiquing people getting hired for better jobs.

He must really suck after being a Morning News Anchor then getting hired to a better position with one of the great NPR Affiliates in the country.... ::)
I don't get it either. I'd think someone would be happy for the guy, and maybe apply for that new WFDD position, if they're really that concerned about the topic....

I'm with you on this! Seems like there always are people with "sour grapes" about anything that happens good to anyone! Most are "wantabees" who have never seen the inside of any broadcast facility!

I used to volunteer/intern at WFDD, mostly with Jeff. And I will agree that prior to going in, I had listened to him make a few more mistakes than was pleasing to my ear. But after a few weeks, I started to understand the breadth of his responsibility. He was the only full-time news employee, in addition to being the Morning Edition host (most NPR member stations would never have only 1 employee doing both), so he regularly put in 12-hour days (that started at 4:30am). He did the research, interviews, editing, writing, and production for most of the local news cut-ins, and if he didn't voice it, whoever did was probably using his stuff. I guess because he was the youngest around there and everyone assumed he had the energy, anything extra tended to fall on his plate. So don't be too hard on him. Glad to hear he's moving up to WUNC!

I'm glad that he got another gig and wish him well (I'll never listen to him anymore anyways), but anybody that has worked in this industry very well know that 12 hours per day is not uncommon, actually it is the normal. At least that was my average day.... ;)

I don't see any difference between this move for Mr. Tiberii (never knew of him until now) or some small area morning show host getting a job on a much less desirable shift at a big market station.

As for WFDD's budget vs WUNC - when I volunteered with Amex back in 2000 WFDD's fundraising target was about $200k-$250k. With WUNC looking at fundraisers in the $1-2million range, then yes WFDD does work with a much smaller budget.

Mark.

I have worked with Mr. Tiberii on a weekly basis for a little more than a year now and have never found him anything other than well prepared, professional on air and off, and a real stickler about the quality of anything he produces. I've seen him take newbies under his wing in stressfull situations and calmly walk them through the rough spots. Maybe I'm missing something, but from my point of view (and I've worked with a great many low talent Divas) Jeff is a good one!

He can be a little high strung, but most of the good ones are..

My two cents, thanks and God Bless

Jeff sounded good to me.

How much of WUNC's ratings and fundraising is due to UNC Chapel Hill? You know how loved UNC Chapel Hill is. Move WUNC to Meredith College and see if the numbers and money are still there. I would guess it's cut in half and wouldn't show in Triad ratings.

I'm not making any comments on the man's character, but I thought he was terrible on the air. He made frequent mistakes and didn't recover well. He always sounded like his allergies were getting the best of him. It was just hard listening to him, in my opinion. Maybe if he's not doing a morning show he will be better. I wish him luck.
