Jen Brien Officially Gets WBZ-1030 Overnight Show

Katzy, Explain what you mean when you say that "if she was a looker" Peter Casey might have been "swayed by her charms"?? Would a "looker" make cookies or bring snacks? .......be specific now.
I will say that she is lucky to have devoted listeners like you folks. By the way, do you think Levielle cared what people thought. He was an arrogant full of himself blowhard.....my opinion only. He was far from a team player ask any of your "in the loop" friends. Better yet check in with "Franklin" on the WBZ message board. Good Lord what a bunch of sexist crap.

"That Woman" is one sick puppy.

Heard the late beginning of her disaster last night.

She brought up Joe Mathieu and said something about ' working things out' and that he would - might appear - sometime.

Yeah, Joe doesn't want to get anywhere near this mental case.

"was far from a team player ask any of your "in the loop" friends."

I think after being canned he came back somewhat different. I never heard a personality talk more about time off (weekend or vaca).
He couldn't have done what Raleigh did for a week without cracking up. And I'm not even talking about the exta hours stuff Bob did.

Steve was an exceptionally good host but his working condidtions were far from horrible.

Steve was great in his early years. As time progressed, he became a bit more agitated though. Anyone that followed the show knew the source of it, however; He was in extreme pain from several injuries, the worst being a shoulder injury. He mentioned several times that strongest pain meds wouldn't even touch it.

While his (at times) nasty/short attitude did bother me, I tended to overlook it a bit, cut him some slack because I realized it wasn't his true nature, rather the physical discomfort he was experiencing. In addition, many of you long time board members know I didn't mix words when it came to Steve's political position.

I couldn't stand the political shows that he did, I was tuning in to another show for those nights - and when he promoted Obama in a huge way the first time around, I tuned out of the show for many months, truly disgusted with the topic material.

but I will give credit where credit is due;

Big difference between Steve & Jen; Steve is a very intelligent guy, honest & truly compassionate, a thinker, a true professional in every sense of the word.

Jen on the other hand, is just a big - NOTHING.

LOL - I guess I'm being ignored. All I asked for was clarification of what cattyradio meant when he said about Jen Brien he could understand Peter Casey being "swayed by her charms if she was a looker". Statements like that say a lot about the person who posts them. That's about what I expected....... crickets.... Last time I asked something he was too tired to read and respond.

To quote the screenwriter William Goldman, "Nobody knows nothing." It applies to film, and it applies to every aspect of the entertainment industry. Nobody knows what's guaranteed to work. O'Brien may well suck, at least to some people, and some folks prolly think she's entertaining in the middle of the night. But remember, (almost) every famous name in radio has been fired half a dozen times, all by PDs who thought they sucked.

If everyone knew what was going to work, they'd do it. And we'd have 20 stations all doing 5 shares. But they don't, and we won't.

Regards,
TSB

Well Gee wiz, buick.

I didn't realize I did that - "too tired to read and respond". I will gladly answer any question...maybe I overlooked it, I can't remember now.

What do you think it would mean? If she was a "looker", i.e. a HOT BABE, I could understand P.C. being swayed by her pretty looks, her long eyelashes, etc. But since she isn't, I suppose he found something else appealing about her. By her own admission, she states repeatedly that she is a "dog". (her words, not mine)

I can understand why some folks view LeVeille as a "blowhard", I've heard that said before. To me, he was just a very jolly guy who liked to have fun. He would poke fun at himself as much as he would the callers.

And, for the record...Jen isn't as much of a "dog" as she makes herself out to be. Fixed up properly, she is actually a bit cute. It seems that she goes out of her way to dress in guys clothes & look sloppy. Whatever works for her. It's her horrible attitude/unprofessionalism - awful radio show that is the real turn off for me.

I listened to Mark Levin for a few minutes the other night while thinking about previous comments that Steve Leveille sounded like him.....I have to say I just couldn't hear it at all. I'm more inclined to be onboard with the "friendly grandfatherly" comparison than Levin's nails-on-a-chalkboard voice.

Traffic issues? Around midnight? Not buying it.

Try getting from Point "A" to Point "B" on any given weekday overnight with all the endless construction after 11 pm on the Expressway, the tunnels, the River Roads, the Pike. It can be a challenge sometimes. I absolutely believe her when she says she had to take a detour thru Timbuktu to get to work that night.

With that being said... you would think by now she would learn to either a) sign up for traffic alerts, and/or b) give herself some extra time from now on getting to the station.

Why not "kill 2 birds with one stone"...go all news with T&W on the 3s and then she wouldn't have to worry about traffic construction delays & detours to get to work.

That will never happen. WBZ was never been all news and probably won't ever be. It's always been a mix of news and talk or music, news and talk. News is way too expensive to do 24 hours a day and it's not like there aren't many other readily available options for someone that wants 24 hour news.
I don't believe WBZ is about change what's been a successful formula for all these years. Radiodrama1, you are correct... knowing the trafffic problems around here she should plan for it. It's not going to get any easier when the weather turns bad.

" is about change what's been a successful formula for all these years. "

They've fired Brudnoy as well as Levellie (took both back). They've turned Sat night into infomercial programming. They aren't above change.

That's true but it wasn't to change their type of progrmming. Supposedly it was for financial considerations. They stayed within their programming type. They replaced both Brudnoy and Levielle with two syndicated talk programs. I don't think the infomercial component indicates any kind of real brand change it's just the nature of the business today. It's all about the money. Look at how many stations do it.

I can't seem to remember back that far...what was the syndicated talk pgm. that they replaced Brudnoy with? And the Levielle replacement only lasted five weeks, although that could change in the future, who knows. I for one enjoy Grayson. He seems to be well liked in many markets.

Another "fascinating" night of talk on the Jen Brien Show. The first hour (the only one I listen to before going to Phil Hendrie) topic: Jen telling us that she needs to live closer to Boston and asking people to call in to tell her to where she should move. Why does almost every freaking topic on the show have to revolve around her? It is beyond amateur and WBZ management should be completely embarrassed for hiring her in the first place and for continuing to torture its previously loyal listeners with this shlock. Wake up, Peter Casey. By the way, in her first few months on the air, she has completely missed one show without an explanation and shown up late the other night due to traffic. This is a 50,000 watt powerhouse radio station and they have turned it into amateur hour. Unbelievable.

buick,

Thanks for that info. I was just talking to a Bostonian friend who told me the same. I'm not sure if I've ever heard Tom Snyder's show. I'll have to check out some old podcasts.

Vinnie,

I was in awe as well. What a fascinating lot of topics we have been treated to for the last few... BTW, did you hear her repeat the same story where she urinated all over herself and the skydiving instructor? I'm so sick of this bathroom filth talk. I expect to hear it on Howard, Adam, Jim, Hendrie, etc...but not on "The Flagship of New England".

I will tune in/out each night hoping to hear a regular caller on the line, but I cannot muster the strength for an entire show. Phil Hendrie, George Noory, Adam Corolla/Jim Florentine podcasts, there's tons of professional talk out there as an alternative to this horrid experiment.

Katzradio - I was so happy to again hear the urinating herself while skydiving story. It is such a great story. And how about her asking for people's phone numbers and telling them she would get in touch with them to get more information on the communities they were suggesting she move to. And also the guys offering her the opportunity to become their roommate. This is absolutely insane. It was like Craigslist on a 50,000 watt radio station.

What happened to Brien as she was skydiving is exactly what she has been doing to her listeners...few as they may be at this point.
Can't wait for Friday when Jordan Rich comes on and Bradley Jay.

I get into work in the city at 10 p.m. every day... I know what a cluster it can be. But if you're from here, you know enough detours to get to/from the office that it shouldn't be an issue. I can think of three alternate routes I'd use off the top of my head. Even my antiquated GPS has a detour feature.

The other thing ... if she were 20 minutes late, sure, traffic. More than an hour?
