Jen Brien Officially Gets WBZ-1030 Overnight Show

Anyone else hear the new Steve Leveille commercials for some Alaska cruise? If only he were back on the air instead of this trainwreck.

Edit: edited for misspelling

As a former caller who had several pleasant conversations with Steve L. over the years, I have to say I would not want to have him back. I think his "broadcast" ran its course, and toward the end it was getting quite stale (the kazoo was really wearing thin, as well as the Leveille/Hagulpian polls [mayo or miracle whip and why] and how much more of Mel Simons' act - nice a fella as he is - can one really stomach). That having been said however, there just has to be something better than what's on there now.

(the kazoo was really wearing thin, as well as the Leveille/Hagulpian polls.

He dropped those bits a good while before he retired, didn't he? He was known as a host for getting a lot mileage out of a bit though. And I agree, I'm not big on Mel either, but he has been a fixture at the station for such a long time, guess they don't want to boot him out the door completely. I don't listen though, as I find the game a bit annoying/boring.

As far as a good replacement, 'BZ simply didn't do enough research, didn't get enough hosts in for a tryout. Out of all on board so far, I would personally prefer Morgan over any of them. Not a perfect fit, but still, better than anything offered up. Bradley J. is almost as kooky as Jen IMO. I say try out some more hosts - there should be plenty out there that would love the work, and there has to be a close "LeVeille/Glick fit" somewhere out there.

That type of show has worked out excellently for years, no sense messing with a good thing; I mean, look what has happened to it now... :(

@katzradio - I had to take a peek.......from wikipedia:

"In 2010 Jen started at WRKO in Boston, where she was host of the weekend show from 12 P.M. to 3 P.M. Her popularity with the listeners in this timeslot, proved to the station's management that she was ready to take on a more demanding role. In February 2012, Jen joined the station's weekday lineup with "The Jennifer Brien Show" airing from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. in the challenging time slot opposite Rush Limbaugh. Despite little promotion given to the show, it’s popularity grew tremendously and developed a fiercely loyal fan base."

I must ask this question....on what planet was she popular? I don't recall her being "popular", it was more a case of a train wreck, people tuning in because they just couldn't believe what they were hearing so they tuned in to see if they were dreaming, she wasn't as bad as what she's doing now but she was not "popular" by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah, this simply lends credence to the "wikipedia is lame" theory. I mean, if this show was so popular, grew tremendously and developed a fiercely loyal fan base, why would they cancel it & boot her out the door.

As with all things Jen, it just doesn't add up.

Funny stuff -

I just ran Ms. Brien's name through google & came across a dozen or more blogs/sites/forums that pretty much echos what is being said here & on BZ's programming page. If all of this fallout isn't getting through to management, I can't imagine what it's going to take.

Please CBS, step in and end this nightmare.

For Hendrie it's possible you could hear it via your comp. or a smartphone on TuneIn--but yes, WCRN may work for you if it does happen.
For Brien:
>>why would they cancel it & boot her out the door

In Aug of last year Rush came back to RKO when CC blew up WXKS (AM). Before that it may have been McPhee middays, who I believe
took the place of Brien; when Rush came back, McPhee was then paired with Todd Feinburg for the morning show. That didn't last long as they would give mornings to Kuhner, etc.

According to this thread in June of '12, McPhee came back to RKO, replacing Brien and Ingraham:
http://radiodiscussions.com/showthread.php?627195-Michele-McPhee-returns-to-WRKO-on-June-11th
That was probably the last appearance of Brien on RKO, when McPhee came back to late mornings, then McPhee was moved
to afternoons, and then Rush came back in August.

Entercom's flip of WWKB to ESPN was prob sudden (no advance warning); wipe out the webpage (redirect to new page) and if there was a facebook, wipe that out too. So far no complaints from the libtalk fans but usually there are efforts like "bring back prog talk"
etc. Prog talk got wiped out in Seattle and Portland, OR, within weeks of each other...ironically enough in the case of one of those,
one of the first things aired by the sports station taking progtalk's place was a basketball game hosted by the brother of
FLOTUS Michelle Obama. The flips in the Pacific NW were long rumored though.

>>As you know Michelle’s Obama’s brother, Craig Robinson is basketball coach at Oregon State

.......................[firing Brudnoy] Supposedly it was for financial considerations.......................................

I was gone by the time that happened, but the word was that Brudnoy's firing was driven by 'lifestyle' issues the GM took exception to.

He was hired back, but for less money, although I don't believe money was the prime mover in this instance.

Regards,
TSB

As I think about it that probably makes sense....no matter what Management said ..... it also makes one wonder if the remote studio in his condo was entirely for his convenience or for other concerns. Just figured I would raise the point since this seems to be the thread to raise issues without any facts to back things up. Not directed in a negative way at you Mr Bench or several others whose posts seem to be fair and reasonable but there are others.....

I thought that was the other Ms. Brien thread we were doing that in. I can't keep them straight. I'll be sure to continue to post my non-facts in both threads just to be on the safe side.

"was entirely for his convenience or for other concerns"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a rumor that a BZ news person was let go for refusing to use a studio where HIV person(s) had been in. Whether it was true IDK? To the op' extreme you had Raleigh shaking hands with a sick Brudnoy so there were differing attitudes going on at 1030.

I cannot take it anymore. I would to know what anyone likes about the Jen Brien show or her performance overall? Every single topic on every single show comes back to Jen. It is the worst kind of radio that I can imagine and it is a travesty that it is being broadcast on a 50,000-watt powerhouse. Honestly, do you find it interesting when she attempts to forge friendships with half her callers and asks them to call her after the show, maybe they can go out to the clubs, etc? Do you find it interesting when she invites callers in to co-host the show? Do you find it interesting when she starts the show with a caller who has visited the studio to bring her pizza, and then goes on to ask the woman, Joanne, insipid questions like, "what would you do if you were president?" Do you enjoy when she spends three shows mourning and grieving the death of her 96-year-old friend, Peg? Do you enjoy when she constantly promotes her Pilates instructor on Cape Cod (she did it at least three times lasts night)? Do you enjoy the fact that she is rarely ever able to complete a sentence or thought and almost never stays on one topic for more than 10 minutes? Did you enjoy the show where almost the entire 5 hours was spent asking people where she should move? Do you like her story that she has told at least twice about how she "urinated all over herself" the one time she went skydiving? Do you enjoy the weekly insipid talks with her mother? Do you enjoy all of the times she has mentioned -- for the past two weeks -- that her phone was broken and she had no way of getting in touch with anyone and her mother was angry about it, etc? And by the way, why does it take two weeks to replace a cell phone? Do you enjoy her regular mentions of her past drug usage and drinking? How much do you like the talk about Al the dog? Did you like her comment the other night when she recalled what her initial reaction was when she saw the first plane hit the world trade towers, "Hmmm. That's not good. That's gotta hurt."? Pretty classy stuff if I do say so myself. Finally, do you like it when she talks about the manure-filled sock, which she pulled out again last night. None of this is made up. And, for the most part I only listen an hour each night before jumping on to Tunein radio to listen to Phil Hendrie. WBZ should be ashamed of itself for letting this dreck continue to air.

If you hate this show so much, why do you waste an hour of your life every night listening to it? There are plenty of radio shows in the world I hate, so I ignore them and listen to the ones I do enjoy.

Vinnie,
Where did I say I even listen to her much or for that matter where did I say I liked her? I never said either. My point has always been "If you don't like it don't listen" and at the same time don't try to convert me to your way of thinking.
I do believe in being as fair and accurate as possible therefore it annoys the hell out of me when people post misinformation, unsubstantiated information or stuff that sounds like it belongs on a streetcorner such as "I wonder who she's sleeping with" or as another classy contributor posted that maybe Peter Casey" fell for her feminine wiles". Talk about classy people, there are many other examples in both of the Brien threads all made up and all b*****it. The thread titled " Who Will Replace Jen Brien" is another example of nonsense. There are posts in both of these threads that are very close to the legal definition of slander or libel but because posted about a public figure there is no consequence. And the posts made by the deluded one that seems to think that he is the arbiter of all things Radio are the emptiest of all.
I suggest that before you try to put words in my mouth you get your facts straight. I hope I have clarified my position to you. If you don't like her write a letter to Peter Casey instead of of posting the same stuff over and over. These two Brien threads bring to mind the expression about "flogging a dead horse."
