Jen is done

Was '90 the year they canned Brudnoy in favor of Tom Snyder? '09 of course was when they let Leveille go but a facebook -led campaign brought him back. If they got rid of Brien to go syndie (not sure they would but maybe to save money...)I'd expect them to go for CBS'
Overnight America as they did before. I can't picture Phil Hendrie or Jim Bohanon on 'BZ. I also think that no matter whom they'd
go with, they may prefer to stay local but if money's tight... (heck, just run the audio of the Ch 4 11 pm newscast over and over
all night... hey! all news!)

With impeanding changes to WBZ overnight in the not to distant future wonder if BZ will just pack it in and pick up some syndicated show for the overnight at least Sunday-Thursday.

Wanna let us in on your secret, or is this just another troll?

Hopefully, the answer to that question will be When whatever local show WBZ-1030 runs overnights Sunday-through-Thursday nights (Monday-through-Friday mornings) at that time gets nationally syndicated, but still produced at the WBZ studios.

In fact, had Steve Leveille not retired, WBZ should have tried to get his overnight show syndicated (but still based at 1170 Soldiers Field Road). It would have been the perfect nationally syndicated all-night show.

to get his overnight show
Not conservative: it would never happen. Brudnoy talked about it but I don't think he was serious (a gay atheist, come on).

"With Bill Leff moving to middays, this finally opens up an opportunity for longtime WGN-AM part-timer Nick Digilio to work five days a week. It appears that Digilio will be given the overnight hours of 1:00am-5:00am."

Nice to hear that a normal human being can work in a major market (live and local). Haven't heard Nick in years I'll have to try and get him.

I think the Reply system is slow today. Had to wait minutes before my post showed up.

Hopefully it will be soon. I would much prefer syndicated over the current local offering. Hendrie would be great, but BZ would never go for that.

I don't think Steve's "broadcast" would have had a national appeal. It was too New England-oriented. If he would have conformed his show to accomodate a syndicated audience, the essence of the show would have been lost and his loyal listeners would've been turned off.

I know that BZ touts itself as broadcasting to 38 states and worldwide on the web and blah blah but it's programming is still primarily locally-focused.

I wonder what this exchange was about?

The 38 states claim was basically a way to emphasize the power of the station for New England ads buys ("If we boom into Kansas City at night, folks must be getting the station through their fillings in Portland, Burlington, Manchester...you pick 'em.) In the 80s, you could pitch WBZ's AMD as 'local' programming in Portland, and the Portland, ME rating book would back you up.

Even in the glory days, the only shows which we knew had a nationwide following were the overnighters, with Maynard, then Glick, and then Raleigh. All those shows were personality, vice event, -driven. Heck, I'd wear a Glick University t-shirt while walking down Front Street in Bermuda and folks from Illinois and Iowa would approach and offer to buy it off my back.

Todays Fun Fact : the WBZ media kit highlighted that the station was "heard in 38 states east of the Mississippi." They obviously meant east of the Rockies, but nobody ever caught it.

Regards,
TSB

Forget Phil Hendrie——he packed it in, back in June (Buffalo’s 'KB kept airing reruns until they flipped to ESPN a few weeks ago).

Hendrie has not packed it in. Until he took a week off last week, he has been broadcasting live for the past few months. He is now on from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. eastern, although you can still find him on many stations from 1 a.m. - 4 a.m. eastern.

Why would anyone in this forum push for syndi? I can listen to any of the shows mentioned an many more syndicated on hundreds of stations via streaming over the internet if I can't get it on another local station or via skywave. SiriusXM as well. BZ needs to stay local so we have a unique choice. If you don't like the current show, so be it - get your syndication fix from your computer or smart phone.

Jen Brien Officially Gets WBZ-1030 Overnight Show

Jen has been out 3 days this week...and considering Dan Rea stayed around for the first hour with Morgan last night, I am thinking this is all been rather last minute. Hopefully this is the start of the end.
