Jericho axed by CBS

Nice dreams, but simply not going to happen.

When humans are in the mix nothing is too unlikely, all bets are off! Stranger things have happened...

If they keep on with the reality garbage, I have better things to do than watch TV anyway. I won't watch just any thing the networks put on.

Also saw "Studio 60" now that it's back with the last few episodes at 10PM Thursday nights. It was a great show, a fun look at at everything going wrong!

The Save Jericho campaign got some good press from the New York Times, ABC News and some others. The company NutsOnline has been delivering most of the nuts. You can check out the story on their website nutsonline.com .

I doubt CBS will add the show this fall but it would be nice to think they would listen to viewers. So much of what they have are crime and reality shows. Jericho was/is something different.

I think the best bet is another network, either cable or over the air to pick up the series. Not sure how that would work.

There is a good chance that if most of the new CBS shows bomb, as I expect they will, the network morons at Black Rock might bring back Jericho as a replacement show; that is if enough people write, call or e-mail CBS. It's worth a try isn't it?

No chance. The show was owned by CBS/Paramount, so it's not like anyone can just scoop in and pick it up. Then there's the contract issue....doubtful anyone's option was picked up, so the cast is likely looking for other jobs. Since CBS didn't place a midseason order for '07-'08, the show is dead and buried unless CBS wants to do a follow up movie/miniseries.

You know, I was thinking about this. Yeah, I was upset that Jericho was cancelled, and I want it to come back so I can see what happens next.

But was it a good show? If I were Les Moonves do the correct thing?
Perhaps. Here's why:

At first, the premise was interesting, and the concept heavily promoted, almost from the begining of the summer. Something terrible happens, and it is implied that World War III has taken place.

Under that premise, you'd thihk this would be like 'Lost." Lots of action, and a many mysteries. What we eventually got was something not quite the same. Instead, action was dropped here and there, like carrots in front of a rabbit. Each episode, I felt like I'd get a taste, but not enough to be satisfied, and I felt like I was waiting until the end of the show, only to be let down with cliff hanger after cliff hanger. In between were long drawn out sappy soap scenes, that usually brought the show to a stop, and usually had nothing to do with the big picture. This show didn't know what it wanted to be: A night time serial? An action adventure? It seemed like everyone was trying to appeal to everyone... Can't do that on TV and be successful.

But then there was the issue of who the stars were. Who's the leading man? It always seemed like Gerald McRaney had the most interesting character, (aside from the mysterious Mr. Hawkins). Here's a guy who should have been the pulse of the show: A veteran actor playing a former Marine turned small town Mayor. Instead, what did they do? McRaney gets less and less air time each episode, until the last episdoe, where they kill him off. Huh? Ok, imagine you are Les Moonves and the producers come to you and say "yeah, for the last episode of the season we're... we're gonna kill off Gerry. Oh, and uh... Yeah we are gonig to move away from the "whodunnit" to moving forward." Think about it, you'd cancel that dawg in heartbeat!

The truth is, as I was watching that show, it became clear to me that the writers had not planned this out ahead of time, and didn't really know where they were going. This was a sign of a very inexperienced team. Lets face it, it was not a very good show.

That said, they should at least lets u finish the story.

Gotta say I respectfully disagree. There was plenty of action. Also Jake's past was a bit of mystery as well as Hawkins.

Gerald McRaney as Johnston Green was never the main character. The main character is Jake Green, no question about it! My feeling is Johnston Green was killed off to save money on production. I have no proof if this.

I'm not sure what soapy scenes you are referring to but if it's the love story between Stanley and Mimi that was used allot for comic relief as a break from some of the heavier scenes. What you might term soapy scenes also show what a shake up like this does to personal relationships. Some get stronger and some dissolve. Action doesn't mean anything if there is no character development. I have to care about the characters.

My only complaint is there were some plot holes. In the real world Jericho and New Bern would have stayed in touch. Jericho would have warned New Bern about Ravenwood. After all as Johnston Green said New Bern had the closest Costco. Also US missles were lanuched but which conviently caused an EMP spike but we never found out why they were launched or what the target was. They also made the farmers a bit too wimpy. I have known a few farmers and if you tried anything with them you'd have a real fight on your hands!

Even with all it's faluts I'd much rather watch JERICHO than Pirate Master or Kid Nation.

Ah, the New Bern/Jericho situation was another point of contention to me as well. I don't believe that things were have degerated that quickly in the real world. Also, there was too much empahsis on just "Ravenwood" instead of the bigger picture. This reminded of CHiPs, when it seemed like Punch and Jon were the only two CHP officers in Los Angeles. There should have been more than just one hired militia. But even that was silly idea to begin with.

McRaney may not have been the main character but he SHOULD have been. He just knew too darn much. The most level headed guy on the show should always be main character, unless you are talking about a show like "Dallas."

I agree with you that Jericho was better than other thigns that are on. But it was also a show that just looked like a 2nd or 3rd pilot should have been shot first.

I enjoyed seeing Gerald McRaney and I agree he should have been a main character. Both he and I are outside of the demographic CBS wants to attract :(

CBS gets all bent out of shape because they are thought of as the Oldsmobile Network. They will kill the network trying to make it appear younger and hipper.

For the time being, they're not in danger of killing anything...CSI and its spinoffs, Two and Half Men, Without a Trace...all successful and drawing good numbers with the younger viewers. Years ago when they killed off Murder She Wrote and the like, they brought down the average age of their viewers and in the long run did just fine with the move.
