Jericho axed by CBS

One of my favorite shows didn't get picked up for next year Jericho. To think I was bummed out when they killed off one of my favorite characters Johnston Green.

Come on CBS the rating weren't that bad. Nine million people and it finished second in it's timeslot.

And I'll say again:
This ticked me off because I was really following the show. The ratings weren't THAT bad! Now I followed all that for nothing with no resolution.

Thanks Les!!!!!

First Star Trek, now this. What's next?

Nice going CBS  Scratch another decent TV program off from my weekly shows that I tape from my DVR machine.

Jericho was just starting to get interesting and CBS dumps the program Why? Someone at Black Rock smoking their socks or something? Meanwhile I'm reading that some network is going to feature a TV show based on "Cavemen" from a car insurance commercial. What's next, a weekly series featuring smiling Bill after he took his male enhancement pill? ::)

The show would be best served by tweaking up the confrontations and shipping it off to premium cable.

Lets face it: Americans only want "Survivor" type reality when its all dressed up and nice...relatively speaking.

They don't want what could be a real dose of reality with a major failure of our infrastructure, whether it be a nuclear war or a terrorist attack...

The fans are not taking this without a fight I'm happy to say. Maybe CBS or someone else will sit up and take notice.

I have been involved with a Yahoo Group for the show. All thrugh the season the message board got lots of really good posts. I thought the show must be doing well to get this many good posts!

I think CBS had an embarassment of riches this year. They are only brining on 5 new shows. If they had been in trouble with other shows they would have probably been happy to leave Jericho alone. Just a theory.

At this point there is a petition with over 44,000 signatures on it in favor of the show. Maybe they should put it on the CW.

Wow, from the reaction of the fans it seems the Tiffany Network loss some loyal

followers. Let's face it, CBS hated it like they hated Gilligan's Island and The Dukes

of Hazzard. It was a filler show for them until something better (whatever it was)

come along. (I hope it wasn't armed and famous). They also made another mistake

by cancelling Close To Home, a really decent drama that they never love

for Moonlight :D  ??? Bottom line is CBS will do all right for another year.

Then they will realize their mistake when they have to can Kid Nation.

That seems like they wanted to try the same with Jericho but towards a different

demographic. Then there is their love affair with that "hit" sitcom The New

Adventures ? of Old Christine. If they love it so much, why do they have to put it

on midseason wait for The Big Bang Theory (A HIMYM rip off).

I doubt all of the new shows of the 07-08 season will work except maybe one

or two from ABC, NBC, or FOX.

At this point last year, I had no interest in Jericho. Thought it sounded silly. Didn't watch the premiere night. But CBS went and reran the premiere on the Saturday night, where I stumbled on it, and got hooked. Then it was added to my video-on-demand service, making it even easier to watch it, even though I wasn't always home on Wednesday nights. Ended up never missing a single minute.

So here I am one year later ticked off at CBS for killing the show--and by killing it, I mean the hiatus that destroyed its momentum. Second and third year shows have trouble making up from those kinds of layoffs (Lost, anyone?), let alone a first year show that they knew would be coming back to face the expanded American Idol broadcasts. It was all but doomed the moment they made that decision.

When it came time to make up the new schedule, there really wasn't a good choice. The show lost something like 35% of its audience by the end. There was little chance it could regain enough viewers to make it worth the investment. From a purely business standpoint, they made a bad decision that, once done, can't be undone. They could only deal with the aftermath, and that meant giving up on a good concept.

Right now it's the number 1 petition they have there are over 50,000 signatures. CBS has a statement on their website saying they get the message and want to do a wrap up episode. I say we should go for another season. We need to keep up the pressure with calls and letters to CBS. They might get the idea we're REALLY serious!

Please help us to SAVE JERICHO!

If CBS keeps this up they will lose their number one status in the ratings. Let's face it their evening news isn't about to garner any ratings.

Jericho was a decent show and it could have run another season. While it may have lost some viewers, CBS could have moved the series to another time slot. Besides that there are plenty of shows on TV today that have lost viewers but some networks don't suffer from tunnel-vision and can see where decent programs can eventually be winners.

Seinfeld, All in the Family were not big ratings winners when they first aired, but eventually did become popular because people were looking for something different.

I'm sick of the American Idol and similar clones clogging the airwaves. Jericho was original. It appears the networks are not interested in original programming anymore; just copycats of what the other guy is running.

I made sure that a few of the major newspaper TV columnists knew how I felt about Jericho getting cancelled. I was suprised my his frank reply. He said that CBS has high expectations for there shows ratings wise and that on any other network it probably wouldn't have been cut.

Since the production company is CBS/Paramount I'm not sure how free they might be to shop the show around to another network. What do you think? I has been done before.

Since NBC shows are in the basement anyways it wouldn't hurt for that network to try to get its hands on Jericho.

NBC has been my favorite network for the past few years. NBC seems to always try for a couple of quality shows, even if they don't get big ratings. Ya don't mess with the bird network!

I remember as a kid ABC had most of the shows I watched. Not so much anymore.

I hope this Reality Show phase doesn't last much longer. There is way too much of it on TV in my humble opinion.

I couldn't agree more. Although I was not a fan of Jericho, I would have preferred that it remain on their primetime lineup over any reality-based show anyday.

Those of us with looong memories will recall
another show on CBS called "Jericho." This one,
about a multinational trio (American, British, French)
doing spy work for the Allied effort in World War II,
lasted from September 1966 to January 1967.

I think in the future CBS ought to steer clear of
the title "Jericho." :)

Either them or MyNetwork.

And BTW....At least NBC isn't doing HALF as bad as they were in the early '80s before Brandon Tartikioff came along. So it can't be all THAT bad....

Cheers :D
