jersey guys?

What a joke. Carton is a shock jock, certainly not a watchdog type. His job is to get ratings, and that means throwing anyone he can under the bus to cause controversy and to stir the pot.

Of course he's trying to get ratings, but in this case, he's also doing the people of New Jersey a very important service. With the demise of local news on radio and decrease in newspaper readership, there are fewer people holding people in power accountable. Carton's subject manor may not always be so newsworthy, but in this case, he was dead on.

If the police want to enforce the laws, speeding 1 mile over the speed limit is still speeding, learn to obey the laws. Craig's blowing it out of proportion was just to shake up the lemmings who think that whatever Craig says is Gospel. Wah! Wah! Wah! The police are doing their job and it's costing me money. Pathetic. Who decides what is an acceptable increased speed limit and what is excessive? Oh yea, the ones who implemented the speed LIMIT in the first place. Speed limits aren't suggestions. Read it. Learn it. Live it.
Next, the lemmings will be upset because the police will decide to write you a ticket if they see a person spitting on the sidewalk. Here's a tip for that, don't spit on the sidewalk. If you don't like the law, get it changed. Don't blame the police for enforcing the law.

Don't blame the police for enforcing the law.

The problem is, they only enforce it when they see fit. There is no ryhme or reason to it. When you get pulled over, do you always get a ticket? I certainly don't. There are any number of factors that determine whether someone gets a ticket or not. Maybe you have a clean driving record, maybe you have a PBA card, maybe you are a local celebrity or politician, maybe the cop is just in a good mood that day. Or on the flip side, maybe you "look suspicious", maybe there is a quota that needs to be hit, or maybe the copy is having a bad day that day and decides to take it out on you. I, for one, would prefer that the rules be the same for everyone regardless of circumstance or "who I know".

In this case, cops were secretly plotting to give tickets to people who under normal circumstances would have only received a warning, or not have been pulled over at all. That's another example of changing the rules in the middle of the game. The cops created this mess in the first place, and were dumb enough to use an internet message board to brag about it, so they shouldn't now wonder why people don't trust them anymore. You made your own bed, and now you have to lie in it.

Again, if you don't want a ticket for speeding, don't go over the limit. If you want to roll the dice and take the chance, don't complain when the roll comes up snake eyes. Police have the discretion to issue a citation or a warning. If you were on the receiving end of a warning, thank your lucky stars and move on. If you got the citation, YOU are responsible for YOUR actions that caused the citation, NOT the officer writing it.
