I'm afraid it's more the latter, but I hope I'm wrong. It garnered enough attention when 1430 was sold to have community leaders step in and voice their opposition to losing it. Of course, with someone like Sheila Jackson Lee, the motivating factor was likely less about KCOH being saved from the impending doom and more about the opportunity to garner more TV time for herself.
You know, I wonder if Darrell Martin may make a play for the intellectual property of KCOH? With KYOK's impending move to Katy, might we see another move down the dial to 1140 for KCOH? Daytime signal for the new 1140 looks good on paper, better coverage than what KCOH currently has on 1230. Nights would be a problem, not even covering Katy proper with that ridiculously low night power, but it's a start and likely could increase the output at night down the road. It is pointed away from B/CS to protect WTAW, and nulls toward Beaumont to protect what used to be 1150 in Port Neches. A tight night array could cover the right areas without interfering with the neighbors and still hit the right parts of Houston to provide continued service to the Black community.
Wishful thinking on my part. Salt of the Earth can't even keep Beaumont's 990 on the air, why on earth would I think he would start throwing money like that on 1140?
