Read the bottom of Richard Wagoner's column that was just posted http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_12521980
If the rumblings Richard writes of in his column regarding some sort of management changes over at Jill-FM (92.7), it would be great to see someone emulate what former Mix 95.9 (now The Fish) programmer Craig Carpenter (whom Richard has frequently expressed justifiable admiration for) did by taking the reigns and re-create some radio magic like he did at MIX 95.9 in Anaheim.4UH8SIMBKAGN said:Read the bottom of Richard Wagoner's column that was just posted http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_12521980
David at USC said:KXMX-FM (MIX 95.9) was HOT AC, with a knack for uncovering and "owning" new and rare to these shores, classic tracks. IMHO, this market needs a "shake it up" station. Had hoped that The Sound would be that station, but alas it's not. KCRW is a bit too soft and esoteric. Indie 103.1 was indeed a "shake it up" station, and many of us loved it so (admittedly not enough for its enduring survival on-air but heck it lasted 5 years and continues to exist (thrive even) online!).
Jill-FM with its OC and East SFV valley signals could be a significant rim-shot player in this market if it truly tried, if it truly wanted to be, if it decides to emulate much of the formatics that were part of the MIX 95.9 success formula.
Note to the inevitable nay-sayers - the reason KXMX went away was a station sale to Salem, who's objective it was to acquire a local signal for it's Christian Fish format regardless of how successful the acquired station was already in its existing format.

Whatever they do will need to be easily sellable on the local direct level. Their net billings for '08 were extremely off target and reported to be under $700K with Q1 of this year at $100K.
They can have the greatest format in the world, but if a majority portion of the market cannot pick up the signal, it won't translate into ratings and agencies won't buy. Whatever they do formatically will need to appeal to local direct advertisers.

Amaturo has had the stations up for sale for more than 10 years. He's not selling. If he didn't like what he was being offered at the peak of sales prices, he's not going to take what he'd get today.socalguy said:It's the first of many moves by new Market Manager Bob Visotcky. New PD, more OC sales people, new station manager, and new website and station marketing...or so his linkedin.com profile says. Bob is the Amaturos' choice to stop the bleeding and fatten the billing so they can sell the stations.
