Jimmy Fallon's Small Tribute To Conan

Uh, back up to 999. My fiancee has informed me we need cable. Of course, I got the last word in that discussion - "Yes dear".

LOL... I'm lucky that my girlfriend is just fine with watching most shows online. Then again there is a new TV in the other room and I think she's going to want to eventually hook that up to cable. Let's see how long I can delay the inevitable. ;D

At least Jimmy is funny. Conan is not funny and has weird, bizzare hair. I could never get past Conan's stupid haircut.
You'll excuse me if I think someone who admittedly can't get past 'a haircut' (particularly one thats been on the year since 1993) doesn't have the best gauge on weeknight comedy.

I disagree. In television, appearance is everything. I suppose that you will tell me that you make your news viewing decision based on "the most qualified news anchor". I say bulls***. Everyone makes their decision based on who is the most pleasant, has a great voice, and is at least reasonably good looking (of course, based on their own personal tastes).

For example, while I applaud Dick Clark for struggling back from a terrible stroke, he is virtually unwatchable at this point. I believe that he should retire gracefully.

Similarly, will someone tell me why a multi-millionaire former talk show host can't get a decent haircut??? :D

Johnny Carson might have king of them all, but anybody remember the sideburns and Nehru jacket? Joey Bishop probably had the best hair, but then Frank and Dino probably told him when he needed a trim. I guess very early Letterman had good host hair, but then he got Joe Biden hair. Remember Ted Koppel hair? Stephen Colbert has good host hair at the moment.

Yeah, I have to disagree, too. Yes - TV viewers are attracted to beautiful actors and talk show hosts, but if beauty was the main requirement, Leno and Letterman would have both tanked. Both of them are fairly peculiar looking. Johnny Carson was the last good looking late night host, but even Johnny was pretty old looking when he retired.

And if you'll notice, the reign of the hunk-male local anchorman has been over for a couple of decades. Yes - there are some handsome TV anchors, but more than a few that are either old and wrinkled, or on the homely side.

There's definitely still a sexist double-standard. Most female TV anchors still have to be pretty, and at least a decade younger than their male counterparts.

Do you'll think Steve Doucey was hired for his brains? Of course he is beginning to show his age. As a woman, I tend to agree that old, ugly, and decrepit guys can be actively employed as talking heads, however there are women obviously middle-aged or older still working including Arianna Huffington, Joy Behar, Whoopi, Barbara Walters,Andrea Mitchell, and Candy Crowley to name a few. I'd do it too, but nobody wants me on their show.

On another note, I think the two best late night guys are Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. I think Craig Ferguson is the funniest of the network bunch. I also think that if Bill Maher was apolitical, he could do the Tonight show as well as anybody.
