I believe "Two Flags..." was the work of the aforementioned Pat Patterson. Say, whatever became of P-squared?
Got a flashback workin' from page 6 and that mention of WIST in Charlotte. 2nd oldest calls in Charlotte, behind only BT when the 1240 (The Bright Spot on your AM Dial) signal went dark in the early 80s. First station I ever worked for and one of the few that didn't fire me. Still remember my first words after cracking the mic, coming out of "Last Date," by Floyd Cramer. I was so nervous you couldn't have hammered a railroad spike up my whooooop (self-censored). I didn't know what to say. I was sweatin'. The music ended. The air had died. Finally, in a Venus Flytrap-like whisper, I said, "There's a little bit of Floyd Cramer for you." I'm sure that all 17 WIST country listeners were very impressed. I went to a spot and then slapped myself around the studio for several minutes.
