Jocks who made it to major markets from WB/Scranton?

The only Iyoobs I ever knew, or knew of, were from Carbondale. Would he be of that crew? Sorry to say, Carol Dean is a new one on me - when was she at WARM?

Masterg : Not sure on the Iyoob's from Carbondale, as far as I know Joe's family is from Scranton, he went to school at Scranton Central. Carol Dean (another Scrantonian) worked at WARM under Paula Degnan. Bobby Day (another set of great pipes) was there also along with Terry McNulty. I can't remember the exact year(s) but it was toward the end of WARM.

We cannot forget Brian Murphy, aka Kelly O'Brien. A product of Schuylkill County, worked at Fire 14 in Harrisburg, then onto Norfolk/VA Bch, to Philly (Eagle 106 among others), then to Boston. Working now doing traffic on KYW weekends.

Some of the best pipes in the business, and a hell of a nice guy.

Think they worked at WARM between '96 and '99. Carol Dean left WARM to anchor the mid-day and afternoon news at WILK. She was there, I believe, until her husband (Joe Iyoob) landed a gig in Philly as the imaging guy at Sunny.

Oh, I think Joe went to school at West Scranton not Scranton Central.

God, am I getting old; not only do I not recognize one name on that list, I have zero recollection of where or when they might have worked in this market. Am I alone here?

May I represent San Francisco?

Mary Beth Rockwell here... my hubby Steve & I did mornings in NEPA in the early-mid 90's (WDLS, Oldies 92) and went on to work separately at Magic 93 (me) and WARM (Steve). We left NEPA in '96 when I was hired for middays at Planet Radio in Miami, while Steve worked for Shadow Traffic there. We then moved to SF in '97 when Uncle Mikey Edwards hired me for the midday gig at Z95.7 (my nom de aire changed to "Katie Mason"), and Steve made the move but stayed with Shadow. He's now with Traffic Pulse out here, and I'm at MOViN' 99.7 (KFRC), which is jockless for now but I'm anxiously awaiting the chance to go live once the station hires the rest of the airstaff.

I do love popping in on this board to reminisce every so often... we made some great friends while we were in NEPA!

MB :)

Didn't he end up at WEMR in Tunk?

Yes he was there. The last time I ran into him he was a security guard at the Steamtown mall. Heard recently he has retired in Tunkhannock.

Re: Jocks who made it to major markets

Y'know, I was here as an older student on the air, then moved to the South Bend market for three years (big whoop ... went from 49 then to 74), then went to the Boston ADI, Marshfield's WATD, for a year, then back here. Maybe I count for this thread. Probably not.

OK, I did a voicer for CBS' O&O WEEI in Boston when I was doing news at another station. I also was on NYC's WNEW-AM for a few minutes a while back. Also did an interview on WRKO in Boston some years ago. Never national, but at least in major markets on leading stations.

Oh, yeah? Well, I visited a station in Sydney, Nova Scotia a couple years ago. I think the FM side had 15-elements on its tower. Probably had a 10-watt xmtr with 10k ERP. Not much real estate to cover out there.
