Joe-FM on channel 38.9

Was rescanning my tv and found Joe-FM. Playing Christmas music. Nice graphics Joe! When did it sign on?

Joe FM On TV

I'm going to give the free plug here. Our own radiodiscussions board member Joe Donalson has made it all the way to the television screen now. At a 12:45 pm check, "Joe FM, Your Greatest Hits" is now airing on KZHO 38.9. Playing right now, Burl Ives's "A Holly Jolly Christmas".

Won't find it on any satellite system or cable lineup, but if you've got a set of rabbit ears or an outdoor antenna hooked to the set, you ought to be able to watch him spin the classics inside the Belt. You've got to give 'ol Joe credit, he's persistent and finally got his programming out across the airwaves, and he's doing it the right way now. I commend you, Joe. Congratulations on getting Joe FM (TV?) on the air.

Ah, hell. You see what happens when you put a bunch of us nerds together in one place? You get duplicate topics, only minutes apart. How crazy is that, that you and I found it at pretty much the same time.

Only reason yours hit the boards first, John, is because I'm long winded, lol!

Frank, could you delete my started topic on this subject, or combo the two?

Edit to add: Thanks Frank.

Joe,

I just looked at the FCC database. It shows KZHO-LD (channel 39) with this pattern. Where did you derive the information for your map?

TV 39, Houston.jpg

Frank, the fccdata.org map is pretty much on target with the real world application of KZHO 39 (Virtual 38). Reports from several acquaintances around town mirror what Joe has stated. It's solid down in Clear Lake, Webster, and Pasadena, where I've got some fellow enthusiasts reporting back to me. West of me, and I'm just north of DT Houston by just under 10 miles, the signal drops significantly. Good friend of mine lives at West Gulf Bank and West Montgomery and has reportedly previously no reception of KZHO. That's only 8 miles more, north and wesr of my location.

I posted the stations licensed pattern. Their actual pattern may be somewhat different.
That still does not explain the map which Joe posted. It's far different than the licensed coverage map.

You're absolutely right. The two are very much different, and I've no idea why there is a discrepancy between what is shown in the licensed pattern map you have provided, and the fccdata map that Joe posted that more closely resembles the actual signal being cast across Houston. It is quite peculiar.

Congratulations. Here's my dumb question of b the topic. Can a radio translator be used to play the audio of a tv station?

https://www.fcc.gov/media/radio/fm-translators-and-boosters

Cross-service broadcasts are generally prohibited.* An FM translator station may only rebroadcast the signal of an AM or FM station or another FM translator signal.* It may not rebroadcast the audio of a TV station, or any other service.* See 47 CFR Section 74.1284(b).* Exception -- An FM translator that is authorized to rebroadcast an AM daytime-only station may continue to transmit programming even when the AM station is off the air for the night.

Huh. Well, "Mana Musica" is sure as hell doing it. 2 doors down from you on 38.7. It lists a couple of FM stations down in the Valley and Corpus at the TOH. I thought it was permitted, and I was wrong. Tejano's question wasn't dumb, but my answer sure appears to have been ignorant.

My God, Joe. You just played "19" by Paul Hardcastle. You know, that's the first time I've heard that song since I was dancing the night away at Numbers on Westheimer, back in the 80s. That brought back a lot of memories long forgotten, man. The silver wallpaper, the flashing lights, the multiple lasers that would go up and down from the ceiling to the floor, the CO2 smoke everywhere, and those little bowls at the counter filled with various colors of.....

...uh, nevermind.

Edit to add: Nice mix of music, Joe. I'll just leave it at that. ;)

I did find MANA on TuneIn but it's on 30.7 in Dallas, not Houston according to the ID I heard on the stream.

I think it used to simulcast with a couple of LPFMs, but not anymore. Maybe the one in Houston does that now.

Well, I guess I had better just shut up. Twice wrong in one thread, I'm slipping badly. 38.7 is color bars as it has been, it's just the "Mana Musica" audio is no longer there.

I just did a rescan on my tv and I can not get 38 I am in the Meyerland Willowbend area

This is going to be my last visit to this forum for a little while. I've got medical issues to attend to. Will be back as soon as I'm able.

As we spoke about in private, I will continue to lift you up in prayer throughout all of this. I believe in my heart that you will come out of this for the better.

You can't get a HD lease on one of the big stations? I could get it out in Lavaca county.

It appears Joe has left the building. 38.9 showing a still shot of the American Flag, with KCYB 103-5 Cypress Radio's logo on the lower left corner of the screen. Jim Pruett knows 1990's electronic dance music?!? I'd have never thought it. Hope Mediafrog checks in soon, is dance music really going out across 103-5 up there? Last I checked it going up to Bellville it was running more of a classic rock/pop format.

He must've known I was about to post this. Now playing "Sugar Daddy-O" by Despina.

Edit to add: Just ran the 01:00 ID. KCYB LP this is Cypress Radio 103.5 Cypress. It's apparently what's going out on 103-5 as well. My God, they're playing "New York, New York" by Micro Chip League. I really am having flashbacks. They told me years ago this might happen, lol.

Jim isn't the one behind the programming, I don't think he has any problem with dance music. Yes they tend to play everything. Even more so since DJ LeRoy Peters started doing his dance classics mix show on Saturday nights and the live broadcasts from the 6400 reunions.
