No written authorization is needed for experimental white space devices operating with less than 4 watts ERP. However, this morning I filed an app with the FCC to use our 200 foot tower with a substantial increase in power. See https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5fT1CTu9fUAVEdROUJEQThKQ0E/view?usp=sharing

The FCC dismissed the above referenced application without prejudice because it was filed on an incorrect form. See https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5fT1CTu9fUAckhGYTBlcTJjRkU/view?usp=sharing It will be refiled with amendments (modulating an ATSC carrier or 82.31 MHz and analog audio on 87.85 MHz) on the correct form later this week.

There is precedent for granting an experimental license to operate on 87.9. Indeed, at one time a station in Brazos, Texas used the channel. See http://streema.com/radios/WA2XNX

That EXPERIMENTAL (not WHITE SPACE, totally different services) license on 87.9 was 10 watts and used in testing Military applications...think the FCC would deny that?? ANYONE can apply for an EXPERIMENTAL license...I did.....asked for 40.675 to 40.685 MHz for amateur use under Exp operations...but the Commission denied it because I was asking for 500 authorizations nationwide without specific details....Only costs me $65.....I plan to refile soon and it will get granted...then filed a Proposal to allow 40.5-40.8 as a new amateur band in the US (S Africa just open their 40MHz segment a month ago and all classes and emissions except TV....HMMMM thats a good thing....are allowed....eventually, the US will have that too if I have something to say about it)

Also, the FCC just last week SAID NO to ANALOG carriers within an ATSC digital stream.....so much for your idea there....someone tried it and got shot down...BIG time.....you havent got a chance...

C W FOREVER (the original DIGITAL mode)

Joe, dig your head out of your rear and grow up.....you dont want to play by the rules and you WILL get fined if you try.

NOW grow up and stopo the nonsense....or I WILL ask BOZ to BAN you....this is ridiculous

I know you have been busy getting KSET up and off the ground, CW, but I think you may have missed a few things along the way, here at the ol' radio water cooler.

1. No Boz. Gone, buh-bye, and not sure why. Say hello to Frank Berry, retired engineer with a doctorate in the field, and quite the knack for being a pretty good moderator. Well versed, informative, vigilant around here. Only problem I've seen him not handle well, brings us to...

2. Joe's already been banned. Gone, buh-bye, but I am sure why. However, with a quick screen name change and an apparently different IP address, Joe's back in bidness at the ol' water cooler. Interesting? Not really, but a precedence setter? You bet.

Anywho, how's 1300 coming along?

Boz permitted Joe to return using his new ID JoeFM1. I have deleted Joe's other "handles" and explained that he must follow our rules or he will be banned from the site.
The ban will not be lifted.

Frank

The published rules of this site specify that a member who violates said rules gets suspended first, then banned. http://www.radiodiscussions.com/sho...-29-14-RadioDiscussions-com-Moderation-Policy

Boz and I had an exchange of emails, where we discussed a few things not appropriate for mention in this public forum. I did a few things that he wanted me to do, and was allowed to return. I have not been making nearly as many posts as I used to, because there are subjects folks don't want me talking about. I primarily use this forum for its private messaging service, as it allows me to stay in touch with people in the communications industry who are positive and give me sound advice.

I have been posting info about my endeavor to get JoeFM and TVJoe on the air via provisions for unlicensed low power "white space" broadcasting because there are -- albeit visitors to this website who read but don't often post -- a lot of people who are watching and encouraging my efforts. The FCC monitors this website and I stay in regular communication with folks in Washington. Indeed, it was an FCC official who encouraged me to continue my LPTV broadcasts. The same official told me about W10BM in Kentucky -- an LPTV station that was involved in an ownership dispute. The FCC formally cancelled the license for the station in 2004. See http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/sta_det.pl?Facility_id=69839 Yet here it is 10 years later; the station continues operation as a unlicensed pirate. http://www.locatetv.com/listings/w10bm Indeed, the broadcast is carried by the local cable TV company. See http://www.tv10morehead.com/

The FCC has given me specific instructions regarding what I can and can't do. Stop and think for a moment: The FCC hasn't done anything about a pirate operating a 500 watt station 24/7 on 87.9 in Pasadena, or a pirate operating a 1 kW station on 89.1 in Austin. Why would they care about the brief test of a flea power 4 watt white space device?

Devil, yeah I knew Frank took over...my bad....but good for the boards!!! As to 1300, the 30 day period after filing ended with no objections filed. ..installing the Cquam gear this weekend. ..studios are being worked on (14th floor of Edison Plaza. ..tallest building in Beaumont. ..downtown! Went to the Montfort bldg of the former ABC RN where I worked for 2 yrs.. got three studios worth of solid wood laminated furniture. .for free!! Most of it was being used by Radio Disney for production..studios E F and G.. Mike Bass, a Beaumont native used Studio F for 15 yrs...and now it's in his hometown. ..Larry King of Hot AC and WW1 who is also a Beaumont native is returning home to join the staff!! All air shifts will be LIVE AND LOCAL from 5:30 AM to mid night....was considering Tom Kent but Larry and I talked and he wants the job...now just to fill out the weekend slots....we have a full staff mtg next week.

Much respect to you, Continuous, for doing things all local like that. :)

Great news, CW!

I'm interested in who's included for the daily lineup and if you'll have news covered as well.

I just wish they would license you for 50,000W so we could have a chance of hearing you in oldies-starved Houston. I am probably one of the few people on the West side that has the equipment to hear your station.

I'd be happy with a directional setup, aiming everything he's got directly towards Spring. To heck with Port Arthur, CW. Let them eat cake! Anyway, I've got a bit of equipment up in the 'Ville myself, and just maybe I'll be able to null out Austin's Zone and catch a glimpse of the C-Quam goodness from The Triangle, but I'm not holding my breath, lol. C-Dub, you sticking with KSET for your call set? I'll suggest a change to KACW. Kick Ass Continuous Wave...'cuz that's what you are, buddy. Kick-ass. I just wish you had made a life for yourself over here, instead of Beaumont. There's a signal (or ten) here in Houston that could really benefit from a little Boonification, haha. Make sure you let us all know when 1300 fires up. I'm not opposed to a lil' road trip to Beaumont, heck, it'll give me a chance to do something I haven't in years. Make a pit stop at Stuckey's. Ha! I suddenly feel soooo 70s...

Due to KXYZ, 1300 Lumberton cannot throw any signal toward Houston......also that would kill my carrying the Dallas Cowboy Radio Network...Sorry guys...IF I could find an AM in Houston at a decent price, I would go for it. (KMIC would have been nice but didnt have that much walking around money ;) ) Started to install the CQUAM gear and found the exciter is NOT working....have to find out why...(it MAY be and just the meters are the issue but I didnt have my R2670 svc monitor with me and the IFR1500 is acting up)

However, I DO have a lot of good news...two weeks ago traveled to Dallas and got the furniture of Studios E F and G of WW1/former ABCRN/SMN on Montfort....may be getting some more equipment soon....also got our Voice Imaging guy....signed the contract....and here is his quick thrown together IDs for the recent test of the DA (was concerned a tractor that cut the grass and got stuck may have damaged the ground system but it is ok)..
Lets see who can guess who the voice is?? (Hint: HE HAS been heard in Houston in recent years and also 38 states at night back in the 70/80s)

Due to KXYZ, 1300 Lumberton cannot throw any signal toward Houston......

Odd that a station that far away would be an issue, especially since we have several second adjacent spacing examples in Houston metro, such as 880-900-920, 1050-1070-1090-1110, 1360-1380-1400, 1460-1480, and 1520-1540-1560.

Of course, 1300 Lumberton has to keep away from KVET in Austin, which puts in a very faint signal in west Harris County.

It all depends on the signal contours overlap and who was there 1st...880s day signal looks NW away from Class D 900...at night 880s shoots SW from Conroe with Pecan Grove running its mighty 9 watts....as a Class D they must accept interference from 880 anyway

(another hint...he was the voice of KTRH a number of years ago, as well as the voice of the Big 890 WLS  )

The water in the cooler we're all hanging around is getting warm. Come on Cw...just tell us who? :)

This is the KSET update thread

Quit hijacking it to tell us about "Joe".

That is, unless he's going to be in the lineup of personalities on the revived KSET. šŸ˜€

Stan, you okay over there? What in the world are you talking about?

Ah, more alter egos huh? Well, good luck with that Frank. If you haven't figured him out yet, your ban won't likely do much good. He'll find a Starbucks or a Mickey D's and use their Wi-Fi so that the IP address will not match the banned one, and wa la, he'll be back again. The guy is going to be trouble for you, I'm afraid.
