My two cents and some clarification:
The Zone Corp is a fine radio group, and honestly, without Stephen and Tabitha, the stations would be on the brink of financial ruin or even dark. They're not running in the black as frequently as one would imagine. Just read the introduction of King's "Everthing's Eventual" paperback. King describes the state of the radio group and his lame attempt at generating revenue. By the way, he even mentions our very own JJ West, too.
Localization? The Cumulus Bangor, and yes, even the CC Bangor group are usually involved in community events up to the eyeballs. We swim in community involvement. I can't say for certain, but maybe even more so than the Zone. Our Cumulus Group is live most of the time, which is more than we can say for many large corporation radio groups.
But, let's give credit where credit is due. Bobby, Mark, ScoMo, Jason, Fred, Valerie, Dave, Rob, Jay, Dale, Clem are the soldiers that make it happen everyday...they're awesome. Sure, Stephen and Tabitha keep it liquid and secure, but the personalities keep it interesting, local and moving forward. The same applies to our hardworking radio team as well. Many of us in the radio Bangor radio biz recognize the security that the Zone offers. It is attractive. And at one time or another many of us have tried to land a gig at the Zone for that reason.
Like many that post here, I've been in the radio biz for a long, long time, and I read much of what is posted and rarely reply. With that in mind, here's a note to job seekers: Most of us have figured out who you are...call it the process of elimination. You must realize that what you write can knock you out of contention for that next gig. You may have many credentials (which may be a red flag in itself), but we have to consider whether you are right for our own culture. When a person leaves or one is added, the culture changes, sometimes for the good or the bad. Honestly, we've dodged some bullets over the past year or so. Be careful not to tip your cards. Somethings are better left unsaid.
