Joey Reynolds fired

Wow. Sorry to see Reynolds go but WOR seems to picking up WABC's mistakes first with Gambling and now with C2C. For years WOR was often the butt of jokes for being the world's oldest station with the likes of the Dolans and such. There's been good hosts like Reynolds and Browne but the truth is there fire has run out and aren't competitive anymore in the declining talk radio market. As much as I loathe Beck and Savage, I don't mind WOR finding a way to either put fire under WABC's feet under the fire for all the critical mistakes they've made in the last 5 years or surpass the mistakes of Boyce.

Yes, I found it: this is what I'm talking about:

Maybe Glenn Beck can finally get cleared in New York!

When hell freezes over. Beck is syndicated by a division of Clear Channel -- and Buckley does not do business with Clear Channel.

Signed, chuckydoll - last active, July 2008.

Well, given he sent me and others rather harassing inbox messages that I did report to the moderators so I assume maybe he's been banned?  He was extremely hostile and abusive, frequently insulting others both here at R-I and at another TV board I was active at--A quick check of his last activity at the 506 boards shows he was actually just online a few days ago there. Either way unless hell has frozen over his prediction and assessment was wrong.

I haven't listened to Joey since his DJ days at KB and WFIL. But the entire WOR network appears to be weak and picking up C2C seems like a good idea. Plus, C2C needs a NYC affiliate, so I would suspect a good deal was worked out for both parties.

The only other real over night alternative is Jim Bo from Westwood One. Rolleye James tried to be a player and was even given a shot at hosting a night per week on C2C. She started her first show with "they want me to read a few news items at the start of the show. Whatever!" She made it two weeks and was gone. Her own syndicated show ended up with only one affiliate. Her attitude sure took her far!

I noticed were WLS has cut George back to a couple of hours...

I think it's because he had a tendency to overuse some of the 119 words that Randy Michaels hates... ;D

I had no idea that had happened. I guess I wasn't that big of an outlet to receive the brunt of his apparent hostility... Anyway, I only brought up his two-year-old post to show that I never forget a challenge. ;)

While seeing a legend like Joey lose his show is sad the fact remains, from a programming standpoint, it looks like WOR made the right choice. C2C was beating Joey soundly and Joey was pulling near goose-eggs in P25-54. Regardless of the numbers this is a tough one to see happen to such a classy guy.

Interesting move, since Rick Buckley has been buddy-buddy tight with his little Joey for many years, all the way back to WIBG in Philly. Rick's usual MO is to take very good care of his old buddies, and merely put up with others necessary to run a station.

Makes one wonder if Rick is backing off his hands-on management style and slowly turning the reins over to Joe Bilotta and members of the Buckley family. Perhaps even local mangers now have some significant input.

This is quite likely just a money thing--no costs for the Reynolds show and likely income from Premiere, which needs a NYC clearance for its avails in the show. As for other dayparts, Rick is a bit, shall we say, on the right-wing side of the political fence, and one would expect even more "conservative" talk on the station, even if others are now actually able to make some significant decisons.

When we had to shake up or schedule this last week because of the retirement of Bruce Williams, I ended up dropping Joey because the show was a little risqué for our little town. That being said, the show was great and if it's in a larger, more liberal market (vegas, detroit), I would have left it on. The good news is now I'm not making two changes back to back....

I'll miss Joey but not the interminable BLEEP tones.....

I guess you can call him a poor man's Howard Stern? ::)

I tuned in Joey on Wednesday night and there was some guy in the studio telling a bunch of black jokes. I was surprised by it myself since it was even sounding risque to me! I'm someone who listens to Stern a lot and I'm not shocked by much. However I don't remember Joey's show going into such territory. Was it funny? YES. But I can understand some small market stations might cringe when it comes to airing stuff like that.

You may recall Joey Reynolds was planning to put together a new TV show for channel 4.2 (the "New York Nonstop" channel from WNBC-TV) in the wake of the end of his now-defunct radio show, but according to his website, joeyreynoldsradio.com, that project "is now postponed due to negotiations."

Hey, maybe WNBC will sign Star & Buc Wild to take his place? ::)
