John Adams to CBS 19 Tylert

Really, personality is everything in the weather biz. If you can entertain and stay put in one area long enough to get people to trust you, you've got it made.

Actually the first anchor team at KETK was John Gilbert (now at KCEN), Nancy Davis (who was a reporter from KLTV), Mark Rowlett and Jim Knox.

Wow, I don't even remember Gilbert and Davis?! They must not have lasted very long.

I know John Gilbert was there into early 1989; Nancy might have left before him but I'm not sure when. Leslie was doing weekend anchoring for a time. Ruth Allen was also doing some anchoring (mostly 6pm's) in 56's early days, then later I think she went behind the camera before leaving the station. One of my old TV Guides from the time of 56's debut has a banner-shaped ad on the bottom of a page with Ruth's pic on it, and the tagline, "Now, you have a choice!"

Oh, yeah. Wasn't she also the first news director? It seems like maybe she anchored at 6 and Nancy did 5 and 10.
 
I've lived in Tyler my whole life, and John Adams is just the biggest turnoff of a meteorologist I've ever seen in this market. I don't know whether Doc and John are going to try and co-exist or what, but I wouldn't blame Doc for taking Stormy and heading to a larger market. Phil Hurley continues to make CBS 19 a laughing stock, and it's a shame because it was my favorite local news station for a while there.

Have to echo the sentiments on Bob Peters being a legend, and especially glad to see good old Roger Gray checking in! Where are you at now, Roger?
 
When I worked with John, he just took the NWS forecast and used it. I heard his downfall at 56 was his lack of severe weather coverage. John just wasn't interested in putting in extra hours.

At 56, he made more money and did less work than anyone in the building.
 
So what was the big hoopla last night? Did John do WX at 5 and Doc at 6 and 10 or ???

John was on both newscasts last night. I thought he did well. Despite other comments to the contrary, I kind of like his laid back style. Maybe he does just "rip & read" but when he was on 56, I remember seeing him come in wearing street cloths to help out (and go on the air) during bad storms. I've always respected that. His approach is more like "the guy next door who happens to know what the weather is doing," but that is fine by me. I'm glad he is back on the air in East Texas.

So where’s Doc? I hope he's just taking a vacation. He's always been nice to me when I've seen him and I think he has a good following.

Well, it's now been a full week since John Adams' CBS-19 debut.

What's the latest? Is he making inroads on being the calm AFTER the storm?
 
Why is he not on their website? ??? Which show or shows is he doing, and what show or shows is Doc doing?
