John Bell says Good-Bye to Z100!

it was a very somber morning hearing the sad news shortly after 7 this morning on Elvis' morning show.
After more than 40 years of radio, more than 26 on the Z Morning Zoo, it sounds like it wasn't a choice he wanted to make but upper management giving him the boot. He did say this morning, while on the air talking about the good old memories with his former colleague and former Z staffer Claire Stevens, something about them catching up on the phone a few days ago before 'he learned he was leaving'....

the farewell fan page is linked here:

What is sad is that the show is extremely successful and this happened. If it wasn't then it's an easy decision. I have no idea as to why Bell is out but he's been a NY institution on Z and he should be very proud of what he's done.

Hands down, John Bell will be a future radio hall of famer! It's not going to be the same without him on the morning show. Wonder who or if someone will take Bell's place.

:( I have a daughter and we both loved John Bell :) She was 14 in the 80's and we both loved Z100. We were very big with the station. Anyone from the 80's reading this and worked or listened to Z100 would know us. I used to call the morning show and Kid Kelly show alot. I was BAD JOKE BETTY on Kids radio show. :) my kids and I would go to appearances of Z100 and John would be at some :) What a GREAT GUY and became a Friend, My daughter and I are in tears. Two years ago my daughter was at a concert in Jones Beach and John was there. she walked over to him and said hi, he remembered her and he asked how her mom is, (me) she called my cell and gave the cell phone to John, what a pleasure to have him say hi to me, hearing his voice made my whole evening. I wish John the Best, He was always so wonderful to me and my family :) I wish him the Best, in all his future endeavors

He was the only person who had talent on the station. MoBounce has a job but John Bell doesn't. Sad state of affairs.

Clearly you have no knowledge of CHR radio anymore. The morning show is very talented and very successful. hey clearly have the talent to entertain their audiences in many many markets. As for Mo..really? He happens to be entertaining, local and upbeat, What CHR are you putting ahead of Z? There are none in this city.

If CHR forced John Bell out they should be ashamed of themselves. He was at z100 from day 1 as everyone knows. He should have been allowed to go out when he wanted and on his own terms.Maybe he can join Scott Shannon and The Big Show on WPLJ.

A spiffy idea, brams - and apparently, not out of the realm of possibility - then again, John Bell's status on his Facebook page is cryptic at best when he says he "hasn't written the final chapter yet"... Hmmm...

His full goodbye message on Facebook:
"Wow.. there is no way for me to thank all of you for your wonderful support and love. I owe you all more than you will ever know.. without your support, the Morning Show and my career would never have existed.. With that said, I am not going to retire.. I think I still have much to offer and I will find a way to do just that.. stay tuned.. I haven't written the final chapter yet... Thanks for everything.."

Meanwhile, former "Zoo" colleague Ross Brittan, now on WOGL/Philadelphia, wrote on his wall:
"John... I won't miss hearing you in the morning because... wait for it... you were on another station!!! But this means we can get together soon, huh? Miss ya, bud!"

Well, this is the end of an era. John Bell was the last remaining original air-staff member at Z100. As usual his last day was positive and upbeat. This shows that John Bell truly has class. Kudos to Elvis and the crew for giving him a nice sendoff on the show.

As for the future, It wouldn't be much of a stretch for John Bell to be on CBS FM. After all, they're playing a lot of the music that Z100 Launched over 25 years ago. I'm looking forward to se where John Bell ends up. It's sure to be entertaining in a good way.

Thanks john for 27 years of laughs and good cheer at Z100.

Elvis Duran is awful and done, ruined by the syndication hand of Clear Channel. Mo Bounce is a medium market jock at best, he does nothing to stand out... and middays are Ryan Seacrest. Across town you have the best CHR jock in this market in 2 decades with Chunky, who is beating Ma Bounce 18-34 persons.

Not only that, he was on that frequency before it became Z100! Yes, he was the community affairs director at the old WVNJ-AM-FM. Quite a run, especially in this business!

Its sad to see people like you, troll on a what was supposed to be a thread about honoring the legendary John Bell, and turn it into a "im a bitter radio hack" thread. Its sad to see you so bitter. The proof is IN the ratings and the staying power of Elvis Duran and the entire morning show. As to the night guy, MoBounce on Z... just checked the ratings. Mo beats NOW 18-34 women and persons. Looks like chunky is in 5th place currently in the core demos. On the other hand, NOW is winning at night with the teens.

Now back to the real subject... John Bell. Can we still save this thread? ::)

Only one person on the planet doesn't recognize the obvious talent of Elvis and his show AND thinks Chunky is a good DJ....so hi Chunky. Welcome to the board.

I logged 14 years over a 17 year period at Z, and I can tell you unequivically that John was my favorite co-worker for all of that time. The guy is just a total class act.

'nuff said.

Here's to much hapiness in the future, Professor Bell!

:)

Bell worked at WPAT in the mid 70's doing a talk show on Sunday nights before moving to WVNJ around 1980. He also served as deputy mayor for a time in Jersey City. I loved him in the good old days of Z and hope he gets to do what he wants after this.

You come off as a really jealous competitor. This post is about John Bell who we all listened to for years. Have some class.

Think what you want, but the changes at Z over the past 3-4 years have made it less personal, less local and less relevent. John's departure is part of an overall attempt for CC & Premier to cut costs which ultimately lowers the quality of the product. Period.
