John DePetro To Be Suspended By WRKO ?

Looks like the suits at Entercom are getting pressure to suspend or fire John DePetro for his sexist remarks regarding the rape and murder of the young Boston woman at a New York City bar.

DePetro seems to be spinning his remarks to save his job.

Word is that WRKO sponsors are ready to cancel their ads on WRKO because of DePetro's remarks.

He hasn't been suspended yet because he's on with VB right now. (Will
be appearing on Dan Abrams on MSNBC at 4, etc.) VB in for Howie as
HC is appearing with OhReally on Fox, then Scarborough on MSNBC...THOUGH
Howie's site says that the OhReally appearance is tomorrow night...

3:30--now DePetro is off to MSNBC, or at least off to that Watertown
facility where he can appear with a Boston skyline in the background...
he'll also be on "Nekkin'" (NECN) with Wendy Murphy.

DePetro--the shock jock from Family-Guy-land!

DePetro - a human vulture picking off the bones of the dead !

I checked your story.
WRKO is NOT planning to do ANYTHING to Depetro.
You hate this guy.
Did he take jobs away from you or friends???
Guys, see someone for help.
Your HATE will be the end of you...
F.R.A.

That's nothing new. Terrayovino has been whining about Depetro here under dozens of names since WRKO hired him.

What happened to the plan to shut down this board anyway? Seems like the only way to put a stop to the constant mudslinging from the thread starter and others.

Are you serious???? What kind of nonsense is this???? IMO Depetro's remarks were right on the money and anyone with a brain can figure that out, it's been great radio for WRKO, most of the listeners calling in agree with Depetro so I don't see where or why he should get fired, he isn't saying anything out of line.

agreed.. and what if it turns out to be the bouncer who was supposed to be escorting her to her car? Will DePetro reverse his comments?

Metco, deja vu?

Wow, this reminds me of John Dennis and the fiasco of his Metco gorilla comment on WEEI.

You know, all these wanna be outspoken jocks will never get it right, like Stern. He's the master. Dennis, DePetro, Severin, they target people and their prejudices show through. Stern bashed EVERYONE, including himself, and I think that's why people gave him more slack.

Why would he? If she were with friends and not alone she'd be alive today.
Whoever killed this woman did so because she was alone and an easy target.
That's what DePetro and many others have been saying all along.

So it's OK to kill a woman because she wasn't with her friends?

>Looks like the suits at Entercom are getting pressure to suspend or fire John DePetro for his sexist remarks regarding the rape and murder of the young Boston woman at a New York City bar.<

No. The "suits at Entercom" are doing no such thing. Depetro's remarks were not sexist, except in your fantasies.

>DePetro seems to be spinning his remarks to save his job.<

No. Depetro is spinning nothing.

>Word is that WRKO sponsors are ready to cancel their ads on WRKO because of DePetro's remarks.<

There is no such "word," except the one you made up. He has just as many commercials in his show now as he had before his "remarks."

Why don't you just get it over with now. Post to this board "I hate Depetro," so that the rest of us who don't have a bug up our butts about him can move on with our lives.

> So it's OK to kill a woman because she wasn't with her

that is not what the speaker was claiming. the point is that a young woman alone in the city in the early morning hours is an easier target. dispute that, if you must.

He's entitled to his opinion. I have no idea if the guy has a vendetta against Depetro but his points are valid just the same.

Maybe you and some of the other posters here aren't familiar with New York. That part of town has lots of young people going to clubs and bars and lounges at that time of night. It is not a desolate street where a woman's going to get raped and no one would see her. At 5am you will see crowds coming out of clubs, couples, singles, women catching cabs. If anything, the Lower East Side has enough pedestrian traffic that the neighbors complain and THAT is a hot issue in NY right now.

But that's all besides the point. Rape is wrong and you can't justify it. And murder is also wrong, and a sin too. Don't even try to justify that one bro!

it's not about friends or being alone. it's about common sense and street smarts.

chances are quite high that someone will attempt to take sexual advantage of you if you happen to be young, petite, attractive, highly intoxicated woman drinking alone at a bar in NYC at 4am in the morning. obviously, it't not her fault that she was drunk and came across a career criminal with a violent past and that eventually cost her life. depetro may have been inaccurate about the odds of such encounter, but he wasn't too far off target with his point about personal safety and personal responsibility.

since i am parent of a young daughter myself, i relate to where depetro
was high coming from with his message. i thought he meant well, but he delivered
it badly.

reading your posts, you sound like an effin' idiot. please
don't be insulted, but you're. if you must know, most rapes and
sexual assaults against women are rarely reported beacaus the
victims often don't want to relive the incident. the investigation
process often adds to the victim's trauma.

just because people party till 5am, it doesn't mean crime and bad
things don't happen in that part of town.

Not in your life, Al (and that bouncer cannot pull it over NYC detectives, it's a done deal, soon I hope). On the radio side, Paul has his opinions and they rile some folks, understandibly, but JDeP put himself into this mess and he's entirely accountable. If Paul wishes to raise the point, then so be it. Anyone else can counter-punch at any time.

Denny Crane here. I'll defend Terraplane pro bono. Just call Crane Poole and Schmidt at 617 266 5555.

DePetro is a public figure. If he can't take the heat get out of the radio kitchen. I think Vulture is an accurate description of the on-air buffoon's behavior.

Stop embarrassing yourself Ciao.
Your lack of reading comprehension is pretty sad.
Your agenda is yours but stop misrepresenting other peoples words.

Of course you will. You're the same person.

Nothing ever changes around here.
