John Gambling announces retirement

Simone is not a good candidate for any regular shift. He is the Luis Sojo of radio. A decent utility man that can come through in a pinch, but not an everyday player, and certainly not a superstar. Pull him off the bench when you need a .250 hitter to single someone over to 3rd. Plug him in when someone's on vacation, and when everyone's tired of his schtick after 2 weeks he goes back on the bench.

And if the goal is to lower the demo from 65 to death at WOR, Simone in the morning, talking about his favorite Milton Berle and Soupy Sales moments isn't the way to do it.

Couldn't have said it better.

And do you really think Simone would turn down morning drive if offered because he doesn't want to wake up early? The guy is a narcissistic attention whore.

And thank god gambling is finally retiring.

That station is a joke. Clear house and start over!

Mark Simone has stated on the air he does not want the AM Drive shift. Joe Bartlett might be the answer. He is Gambling's news person, has been for many years and does his own Sat AM talk show. He sounds like Gambling,as well. If WOR wants to stay the course and bring in someone who the audience is familiar with, Joe Bartlett could be the choice. Of course, this is all speculation and Clear Channel might have someone chosen already.

Simone does not want to do am---drive or WOR does not want him to do it.
its one or the other.
and it seems likely WOR knows who the new host willl be.

This goes back to the point I was making on my other threads WHO is going to be the next........

I am still having once heck of a time finding anyone to do internet radio shows that dont involve rap hip hop and who is the next start to be arrested for guns drug or beating a woman...Its like the kids today are so freakin clueless about anything.........but then maybe that's what the powers want .Keep em stupid........we have to train the next generation any good journalists?

What about Mike Taibbi? would he be good on the radio?

How about these girls, they are making quite a stir. On air on 93WIBC from 4-6pm ET weekdays

clear channnel may want a host in am---drive who willl hammer Obama & all democrats
harder than Gambling has. The new host willl be joining Rush, Hannity & others on WOR .
in addition--- WOR willl want a host who can hammer Imus in the ratings.

My guess is that WOR-710 won't be the only station Gambling's replacement will be heard on.

Mark my words: The next morning drive host(ess) on WOR will also be heard in morning drive on all of Clear Channel's other talk stations, even if he/she is based at WOR.

This is the first step in establishing a national morning show for CC talk stations, which means that pretty much, CC talk stations will have round-the-clock syndicated programming.

Not likely unless Bill Handel (KFI) is also retiring, which I doubt. I'm sure CC isn't firing Handel and would love to syndicate him, but that would mean he'd have to start his shift at 3 am PT in order to cover the East Coast. His response might be, in the words of Bob Grant, "Ooo-pha!"

As for Joe Bartlett -- a well known radio observer has suggested that Bartlett should be given the morning show based in part on doing a "good job" on his Saturday show. I like and admire Bartlett. He's a hard worker and a very smooth news anchor, but I wonder if that observer has actually listened to the Saturday show lately. Bartlett's chit-chats with his friend at O'Hara's Bar, for example, are a complete snore-fest. Bartlett has done a good job of keeping the morning seat warm between hosts over the years but, to paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen, he's no John Gambling.

Joe Bartlett may not be the choice for am--drive on WOR----because they may want an
Obama & democrat basher --- which Bartlettt is not.

Teaming Bartlett and Kennedy sounds like the Point/Counterpoint feature on "60 Minutes." Nationwide how many liberal hosts are on Clear Channel stations?

I don't see Joe Bartlett hosting the show by himself. I would try Andrew Wilkow, because he was only on Sundays in NY before. He's young, and should be tried in NY again.

A little arrogance I can take. My fear is that they'll replace Gambling with one of the babbling babes who have filled in for him recently.

Simone would be a good transition, especially since so many other changes will be taking place at WOR almost simultaneously. It would give listeners a sense of stability. I can't imagine that Simone would want to get up in the middle of the night five days a week for very long.

Already answered by others.

WOR likely will be worse---- not better. clear channel is bringing in Rush, Hannity & its other windbags.

others I've heard mentioned for am---drive on WOR----
Lionel, Richard Bey, Steve Malzberg, Elllis Henican, or Jim Kerr & Shelli Sonstein.

I doubt any of them willl be the clear channel choice for WOR.

Jim Kerr would be an interesting choice for WOR mornings., But , would Jim want to leave WAXQ?
Or, clear channel may prefer him to stay on FM.

I've heard that Curtis Sliwa might be interested in moving to a better frequency and lets face it, with Simone, Hanniy, Limbaugh and Sliwa in the same stable it would be like WABC but a bit south on the dial!
