John Gambling announces retirement

Not a chance. They will probably look to add a real morning show. Moving another older DJ into mornings is not CC's style in NY

Hammer The President in NY? Not likely a successful move.
clear channnel may want a host in am---drive who willl hammer Obama & all democrats
harder than Gambling has. The new host willl be joining Rush, Hannity & others on WOR .
in addition--- WOR willl want a host who can hammer Imus in the ratings.

I doubt clear channnel wants Sliwa for am---drive on WOR .

They likely want a conservative to host am---drive on WOR
& hammer Imus & WABC. A conservative similar to Gambling. Not too harsh or extreme.

Who follows gambling?

Don;t count CURTIS Sliwa out. He's on very, very low-power 970 THE ANSWER i n the same time slot as Gambling holds. Sliwa is 'Edgy', appealing to the mainstay of WOR, the 55+ set, as well as bringing in more demographically diverse groups. He's NEW YAWK to the CORE, and has a distinct local flavor. But, he is unguided, untactful, offends widely, and is undisciplined for a big corporate radio/packaged programming type of operation which is what WOR has become. I do agree with others here that the obvious, immediate choice of Simone seems to make sense, but he's a snooze, and has never built or maintained audience in any of his prior perigrinations. If I were WOR, I'd go for the Long Ball play in order to hold the ratings at this time slot, and maintain the only real New York area local regional talk show approach with a New York-oriented figure. Perhaps Sliwa is not the only one. If they DID go with Sliwa, he'd have to be bookended by more mainstream, controlling, balancing people . He would roll all over Joe Bartless and J.J., and clobber their names, ethnicity, region of domicile, and other typical Sliwaisms.

Curtis & Kuby I could see in am--drive on WOR. But not Curtis with some weak co--hosts.
But Kuby can likely make more $$$ as a lawyer & not have to get up at 3 am.

Very low power? He's on a 50,000 station now, after sunrise. The difference between 970 & 770 is that 770 is non directional and on a clear channel and 970 is directional on what was once considered a regional frequency.

I saw the story last week in the news about simulcasting some of Curtis' morning show on TV. Did I also hear that he signed a new contract with Salem? Would Phil Boyce want to let Curtis go? Seems like with all the moving/retirement in NYC radio, there might be lots of outlets that would give Curtis a look. Did he use contemplated interest to secure a stringer position at the Answer?
