John Webster Out at Rock 107

Shamrock can't afford to lose John. Add to that that they fired Tom Bass and there's no love on the 5th floor of Shamrock. Some say it's Bobby Lynett way over his head. He was a poor GM and even a worse radio corporate type. One thing is for sure Daniels and Webster held Rock 107 together. Best of luck John. I hope he lands at another station. He's good for NEPA.

A sad day in local radio after 25 years you would think some deal could have been worked out. Rock 107 won't be the same. Jay is a real pro but still it won't be the same.

...Note the "I'll Be Back!"...

Consider the "I'll Be Back!" does not necessarily mean back to Rock 107. Seems I recall 'hearing' he may be going to another venue just down the road a piece... Time will tell. And most likely soon.

When was Tom Bass fired? His name is still on their website. Slow in removing it, maybe?

I know this may be a reach.. and I know there's been a lot of movement on the airwaves around here these past few days.. but keep in mind tomorrow is APRIL FOOLS DAY.. the "I'll be back" reference may or may not pertain to showing up at their Birthday Bash as a suprise.. nothing now-a-days would suprise me!

I'm not seeing a joke here. It's already hit the local news outlets that Webster is taking over for Kevin on April 12th at WILK and Kevin is out. I thought there was a 6-month non-compete involved here, but the fact that his contract was in negotiation may heve negated that.

That's quite a reach Plastic man.

After a 25-year run, John Webster unexpectedly resigned as morning co-host on WEZX-FM (106.9) in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and will move to mornings on WILK (980/103.1) in Wilkes-Barre, according to Webster’s Facebook page. He replaces Kevin Lynn

Rock 107 has been advertising, agressively, for a DJ/Announcer now for over a month.
When the rumors began to shake I thought maybe Webster was heading to new talk station 94.3..but of course that is basically a rebroadcast of WABC NYC.

Kevin Lynn's firing was a complete surprise to all of us...and it is a big loss, because he is very political and I think he was a draw. Having WILK on FM in the Scranton area was a big draw too.

Webster is a popular and funny guy, but I don't know how he will match well with Nancy Kman. This move doesn't make a lot of sense. But obviously there was a position open at WEZX for over a month, so this has been in the works for a while.

Personally, I like Kevin Lynn and I listened to the morning show mostly because of him.......(yes, I like Nancy too).
I'm wondering where he can go though.
Maybe open up the Imus portion of 94.3 for Kevin?......now, that (Bold Gold) would be a good idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......live and local (and controversial too!!!) Kevin is your man.

weather you like kev or dislike him..what i dont like is the way corperate radio stations terminate employees, who for the most part give 100% at there job. they dont talk to the person getting the ax, and explain why they are getting fired, they wait until a holiday and then tell you your done, and escort you out the door. this is how they do it. and dont ever give statements to the media, or your really in deep crap. its a shame, but this has been going on for a long time. i know its business, but i think theres a better way of terminating an employee.

Do you think 'the station is the star"?? or do personalities really make a difference in this market?

As an old WARMIE, where "the station is the star" was prominently posted in the Avoca sales department, I think the case for that statement has been made repeatedly when the legends left or were left behind. Same was true when matinee-idol anchors left NewsWatch 16. It's the PLATFORM, not the player that makes (and unmakes) the stars. Talk radio may be an exception, since so much of the talent's character, opinions and behavior are hung out every day. This morning's responses from WILK listeners are abundanty evidence that these talkers touch us.

As for Kevin, as obnoxious and irascible as he wanted to be perceived, all of us in media should pay attention to the way he left this stage. Despite being taken aside and shown-the-door (for the Xth) time, he refuses to find fault with with the bosses. Classy, Kevin; thanks for years of entertainment.

I see Shamrock's true colors are now shinning. They look decent from the outside but inside it's a lousy place to work. NEPA is filled with the good folks who've been kicked out of those doors.

Yes, some stations are the star- just look at WNEP- they could have kids from a local college anchor for a month and still have viewers...
Other stations got hot thanks to their talent- KRZ and Magic 93 with Jeff Walker and Frankie Warren in my humble opinion...

Lynn to "the talker"? Where would you put him? I think if I hired him, I'd put him in direct competition with Corbett. They can't bump Imus...

And yes...he must have seen the writing on the wall- I'll bet ya a Pepsi Webster's presence at WVIA a few months ago started all of this...
