Although I don't think it was in good taste, there are alot of things on late night tv that are not in good taste, so why all the fuss over a bad joke. Letterman has apoligized, move on. In fact as they say "don't shoot the messanger", applies here because the joke was probably written by one of his writers and not Dave himself. Yes, he approved it, yes he did the joke but come on. I have heard a lot worse on late night tv. Your right in saying it is getting him a lot of coverage, but its not the kind he needs. I think Dave will overtake O'Brien anyway simply because the Tonight show now officially sucks

Even Sarah Palin has accepted the apology and said it's time to move on. Typical of Ziegler...a day late and a dollar short. He'd be better served railing against the city of LA for spending money on a Lakers parade than this gushy pandering to Palin and her supporters.

This may be the stupidest thing EVER. Get a clue John....and remember, NO ONE is listening to KGIL anyway...so if a tree falls..........

Maybe Ziegler is pulling this stunt to stir up publicity so more people will start listening to his KGIL program...ya think?

Wouldn't you think he'd focus on stirring up publicity with a topic that would expand his core? He's already got the Palin crowd (if they can hear the station). How is making this a benchmark issue likely to grow audience?

Does Ziegler have the "Palin audience?" Between 11:00 and 1:00, it's more likely that the vast majority of conservatives are listening to KFI (last hour of Rush, first hour of Dr. Laura) or KABC (last hour of Scarborough, first hour of Hannity).

If the publicity gets a few thousand conservatives to check out his new show on KGIL, he might make a few converts. It's why new fast food joints give out "Buy one, get one free" coupons.

Lew you forgot the third option: last hour of Rush, first hour of Hannity.

That's my schedule of listening...

Ziegler got a lot of press today...He was the lead on Inside Edition, was mentioned in a live story from outside the Ed Sullivan Theatre on Neil Cavuto's show on FNC (which draw a large enough crowd to close down the street) and is being billboarded for Anderson Cooper's show tongiht...among others. He is getting a ton of press out of this...just like Letterman.

Untalented people need to make a spectacle of themeselves to have any shot at getting an audience.

Ziegler is a tool.

Yeah I agree. I never liked him when he was on KFI.

If a conservative right leaning host had made a comment like that about a liberal female politician, would he have been fired on the spot?

It is not John Ziegler's web site. He agreed to speak at their rally only after the owner, a man in Nashville, agreed to restate their mission. John does not expect that CBS will fire Letterman but that this issue is hypocrysy in that CBS and MSNBC did fire Don Imus who made less offensive jokes. I myself have been a Letterman fan for years and I don't think the man I watched for years and who hails from the same area as myself would have made such a misstep years ago. I sense that he is caught up in the national love of Obama and his judgment was clouded.

The other difference I see here is that Imus's incident was a live on the air on the fly kind of thing whereas the Letterman show is written, rehearsed and then taped. There were multiple opportunities for them to have rethought the joke. The other thing to me is that jokes on public figures are fair game and certainly former President Bush and current Vice President Biden provide a wealth of material. But those late night monologue raps are taken from something that actually happened and then satirized. Letterman came up with a fictional and not very plausible scenario where the only facts were the Governor Palin and her daughter went to the Yankee's game. So it was a reach and while Ms. Palin had to be gracious and accept the latest apology Ziegler is under no obligation to accept it and to go on stating his views. He is a radio TALK show host.

Most of the jokes written for late night talk shows come from the writing staff although hosts like Leno & Letterman do contribute and they do run throughs, so the joke wasn't new to Dave. In his apology he noted that he should have made it clear who he was talking about. It was a mistake on his part and he took responsibility for it like a man. Palin accepted his apology and it's done. Though I did find her labeling Dave as a sexual pervert to be over the top on her part.

The only people perpetuating this are those in the media and that hack Ziegler. He's doing it for publicity and nothing more. If it was really that big a deal to him he would have talked Saul into a coach flight to New York sooner. As mentioned by someone else earlier in this thread, he's a day late and a dollar short and is going overboard on an issue that doesn't merit the attention. But then again, yesterday must have been a slow news day as all the media outlets are giving Ziegler air time.

Again, it's over, old news and Palin got what she wanted out of it, more time in the public eye. To Dave it was just another joke. Only this joke took on a life of its own, something I'm sure he didn't anticipate.

Zig has found his stunts make perfect fodder for topic hungry news channels. "Coming up next... should David Letterman be fired for his bad joke... hear from the man that says yes." Zigler gets the illusion of being a newsmaker. Trouble is nobody really cares that much about his "stunt" issues and therefore it doesn't add a bit to his radio audience. Can the term "gadfly" be far behind?
