Johnny B

Is Johnny B doing a morning show for Chicago or Green Bay? He talks more about fishing and his depressed brother over Brett Favre quiting than anything else. Are people really digging him being back in Chicago? I would have rather seen Mancow brought back, he talks about what is going on now in this city and country when I listen on line. Why is Mancow not on?

"are people digging that back in chicago?" he's #1 M25-54. is cow still rockin' joplin?

don't get me wrong he is talented, but the show has gotten lazy. it is not that hard to be #1 in this town with Mancow and Stern not on. all the girls listen to eric and kathy so all he really has to beat is Steve and Drex. I believe Mancow would give him a run for his $$ if back, agree?

Let's see - "irishivy" - five posts, all mentioning Mancow.

Can you say "agenda"? ::)

As much as I hate to say this.....but a Mancow local morning drive show would kick Johhny B's ass in. No doubt about it! Johnny B should really be over on The Drive...not really sure if he fits in with the slow evolution towards a classic metal playlist the Loop seems to be headed towards.

How about bringing back Byrd to do mornings at 'The Loop' and playing Rock 'n Roll?

Some people want to hear more music in the mornings and LESS talk!

I enjoyed The Loop much more when Bonneville owned the station. Marv Nyren is a terrible Station Manager IMO. He even got rid of the heritage late-70's paintbrush logo, and brought back the logo that resembles the one from the 80's when the station really sucked (under Jim DeCastro and Greg Solk).

When Brandmeier worked at WLUP in the 80's the station was very yuppie-oriented. AC/DC, Van Halen, Scrorpions, and Ozzy were considered too heavy for the station at the time.

I say get rid of Brandmeier, Nyren, and the new logo that resembles the logo from the 80's. Also, get a real, live person to do overnights. And bring back live streaming 24/7 on the internet. The Mormons know how to operate a big market station--Emmis doesn't.

The only worthy change that Emmis ever made to the station was the return of The Loop Rock Girl.

I do not listen to Johnny much, the only time I ever really did was when I was in the car with someone who liked him. I have tried to
listen more than a few times and I personally don't find him that funny. That is me though and my tastes are different than other's.
He is pulling good numbers and making money for THE LOOP, so I don't see why they would change. I have to agree that I did like
THE LOOP better under Bonneville, I felt like it was run much better.

Mancow did well here in Chicago on both 103.5 and Q101, he was let go because he was losing his Chicago focus because of his
syndication. He was also alienating a lot of advertisers which was one of the reasons Q101 decided to part with him. I thought he
was a riot when he first came to town; but after about a year I could see right through him, he is fake, constantly changing with
the wind. One day he was claiming to be a shock jock on the level of Stern, the next time I listened to him I felt like I was listening
to a conservative talk show host. Will he ever be on in Chicago again? I'd have to give you a very cautious maybe ???

Guys....Mancow would DESTROY Johnny and boring Dahl c'mon they are like 30 years older than Mancow who is in his radio prime....I listened to him for years and do it now on line for free......as far as the Joplin comment Mancow is on 40 + stations.... his ratings had never been higher with his billing through the roof in his last book...He parted ways because the now GONE -FIRED P.D. Mike Stern thought he could copy Cow for cheap....It failed and so is the station overall!

mancow is on 40 stations? have u checked? a bunch of sarasota/joplin/texarkana markets. name a major market w/ a big stick that he is on? cow is only on am frequencies in the 1400+ range. if you combined the wattage of all of his signals- you couldn't lite up a cigar. people- in this day and age of "revenue is king" ...if he brought any in... he'd still be on. revenue in major markets are suffering..yet his phone doesn't ring. if he could make someone cash- he'd have a gig. dahl/brandmeier/eric & kathy..even eddie and jobo have delivered revenue for 20+ years. that my friends...is immutable.

sunny,

to the best of my knowledge he always had ratings and was VERY sellable...some of the mrkts include Houston, SF, Baltimore, Indy, New Orleans, Honolulu, Knoxville, Va. Beach.......give me your opinion is Chicago Morning programming good? Would Mancow make it better?

"very sellable" morning shows don't stay off the air for 3 years. (see Don Imus)

If you like talk radio in the morning, then Johnny B. does a great job. If you prefer music in the morning then I think nobody does a better music intensive morning show than Byrd. While I liked Mancow when he first got here, I agree his show got stale and just didn't keep my attention. Johnny has a quick wit and appeals to a lot of people. My only complaint about his show is that lately he seems to be replaying a lot of his interviews or bits and that gets a bit tiresome for those of us who are loyal to his show and listen everyday. For example, today he played an interview with Jeff Ma that I have heard 2 or 3 times before. Granted, the movie about him, "21" is just coming out but for those of us who always listen, it can get a bit old. I don't think Mancow is even in the same category as Johnny B. who I would consider one of radio's greats.

to the best of my knowledge he always had ratings and was VERY sellable...some of the mrkts include Houston, SF, Baltimore, Indy, New Orleans, Honolulu, Knoxville, Va. Beach

San Francisco -- show airs on 860 KTRB, a station with almost a 0.0 share for the week in Ages 12+, and that's been the case ever since the station signed on a year ago. The ratings are so low that this station has never been listed on R&R's ratings page.

Baltimore -- show is on 1370 WVIE, a throwaway station with a 0.5 share in the fall '07 book.

Houston -- show airs on 950 KPRC, a station whose ratings have fallen by about 50% from 2 years ago. For the week, the station had a 1.6 share in the February PPM. This is arguably Mancow's most noteworthy affiliate.

Indy -- show airs on a Class A rimshooter located 20 miles south of downtown. Another throwaway signal, and another station with almost a 0.0 share. The ratings are so low that it's not listed on R&R's ratings page for Indy.

New Orleans -- airs on a third rate AM station, 690 WIST. 0.7 share in the fall '07 book, a 50% decrease from 1 year earlier (in the aftermath of Katrina).

If Mancow's syndicated show were "sellable," he wouldn't be airing on predominantly third-string stations with little to no budget.

BTW, I didn't even bother mentioning all the large / major markets where Mancow's show was canceled after no more than 12 - 24 months on the air.

While his syndication career has been mediocre, the fact of the matter is he was earning GREAT ratings in Chicago once Howard Stern left the terrestrial airwaves.

Mancow was #1 in Men 25 - 54 in his very last full book in Chicago. He was beating Johnny B by a decent margin.

Mancow has had only spotty success in syndication, but to be fair he is rarely given a good radio station for any length of time.

Having said that it boggles the mind that he is not on in Chicago. He is no longer a "shock jock" and delivered reliable demos!

Johnny B was on for several years in LA, put on by people who really believed in him (including Kevin Weatherly) and underperformed the station the whole time. Eventually they blew it up for Jack.

I would put Johnny locally in the same category as Mark and Brian are in LA. Comfortable and interesting to long time fans. A real Pro, but nothing really new. Not that there is anything wrong with that, unless you are looking to be wowed. In Chicago these days, good luck.

Brandmyer? He was hired by non-Chicago corporate types that didn't realize he was finished in this town years ago. Mancow will be back!

"Mancow will be back" means he's not here. Everybody in the industry must have swung and missed on "the resurrection of 'cow".

"sellable ratings" are the only ratings that matter. it's 2008 not 1998. it's why he's (you're) not heard anywhere that counts ;)

howard was/is sellable. johnny is sellable. cow? not a nickle could be made. or is every single major player in radio stupid?

immutable.
