Joining shows in progress after sports events

You realize, of course, that Fox scheduled reruns rather than first-run episodes precisely for this reason (possible pre-emption, either in whole or in part) ...

Umm in some cities particularly on the west Coast Fox O&O like KTVU will pre-empt an infomercial because a football game went overtime. Note this is due to the fact that primetime starts later on the west coast Sundays at 7pm. The infomercial goes to Fox Owned KTVU Plus.

But then again nobody cares about the infomercial that was pre-empted anyway. We just like the excitement of overtime of the MLB game or the NFL game on Fox Sports.

I wonder how do the syndication people handle it if there are frequent preemptions or JIP's? do they offer the stations a refund on the missed time, or do they just forget about it? With 26 shows each season back in the day, i guess it was a bit of a issue, like if a show was scheduled to follow the NFL in a lot of markets, or after baseball(like with NBC's GOW or WGN with the Cubs for example)

A weird thing happened to me Sunday night.

I tape Andy Rooney and go in the other room and watch the rest of "America's Funniest Home Videos" on the digital channel. I switched to the digital CBS channel which has never given me any trouble, though I rarely watch the channel since I don't want to end up losing "The Simpsons". "Amazing Race" was already on. So this means the movie will start on time.

I taped all of "Desperate Housewives" on the VCR hooked up to cable (I don't take chances with digital unless I'm there watching, except for "The Simpsons"). TiVo is already recording two other shows at once, also from cable. That left me watching "Hallmark Hall of Fame" on the digital channel, and no problems. When 10:00 came, there was a break, and I did what I needed to do and went in to turn of the VCR and switch to the movie. Yes, I could have watched it all on one TV, but I turned that one back to "The Simpsons". But the break wasn't long enough! The movie was already back!

No, wait, this has happened before. I pick up two CBS affiliates. Or did, in the days of analog. The one I was watching during the second hour is only available on cable around here, unless I get an outdoor antenna. It seems THAT station hadn't yet gotten to the break, because I had seen that scene.

Fortunately, the station I was watching on the converter box is also on cable here for some reason, and I tape "Jeopardy" at 7:30. Which means on Sunday, I'm taping that channel when Andy comes on at his normal time. So I didn't lose Andy!

I remember something like that in 1989. I was watching the Jets-Chargers game from San Diego, on one of my satellite receivers, while OTA NBC was showing "A Mother's Courage: The Mary Thomas Story" at the same time(the Broncos-Raiders game had ended first.). When the game in Sam Diego ended, the same show started, from the beginning. I was surprised, since i thought NBC would have switched to the Jets-Chargers game first.

Yeah, it's happened to me before, when i had the big dish and i could get NBC or CBS feeds of NFL games that had prime time shows starting late. It happened one time with "A Brand New Life" and the Broncos-Seahawks game, and the movie had started OTA, but the the game in Seattle went into overtime. The show started from the beginning after the game in Seattle, and was at a different point than it was on OTA.
