Jon Meterparel leaves WEEI/Dennis and Callahan

I didn't hear anything official this morning during the time I listened -- is Shepard officially with the show as of now?
Apparently for the next couple weeks, it's Shepard on Mon-Tues, and weekend flashboy Scott Sudikoff is covering Wed-Fri. At the end of the month, presumably they'll have a more permanent solution in place.

I hope Sheppard gets it. He obviously wants to work there and I think will really appreciate it. I know that's not a reason to hire someone, but it can't hurt. I suspect that the demographic that comprises D&C's audience won't have a problem with him.

It's interesting that Finn (who I can't stand) is, in effect, calling Jason Wolfe and Meter liars. Both said that Meter was offered more money to stay. No one made up any stories when Dale, Sheppard, Wallach, Iggy, or Brett left. Some left voluntarily and some were fired/laid off/re-assigned. Why would they lie about Meter? Especially if he pops up at a competitor.

Agreed, I'm not buying that there's an Entercom "cover up." They're not shy about telling you they fired people, didn't renew them, laid them off, etc.

That goes for all the stations in the cluster, and as recently as a couple of weeks ago when Kevin Barbare was let go from 'AAF.

Entercom is on an Oct 1 fiscal year. He was prolly gassed to save some dough and they agreed to mutual non-disparagement and a cover story.

Wonder how he voted on the union? Maybe he should ask Carr and Callahan how wonderful the non-funded 401k is compared to the AFTRA union pension, or maybe about how lovely the Entercom severance package is compared to what was in the AFTRA contract.

Sounds like Sheppard is the guy they want with D&C. Entercom will slow play it, having other people come in and "audition" but at the end of the process, it will most likely be Pete. Not only will it give them a "name" in mornings for short dollars (you really don't think Sheppard is going to make that much, do you?) but it puts someone in place in case Dennis retires or the duo winds up not being renewed in a couple of years. Meter was not going to be a long term solution in mornings. Pete could be.

Were they recently extended? The reports were that D&C signed a five year contract in September 2007. I haven't heard anything about a new contract though.

If you read that article word for word, it doesn't rule out being let go. Also, he may have been offered more to stay (per other reports), but that may have come with other duties within Entercomm.

In an article by Bill Doyle in the Worcester Telegram, he interviewed Meter and Gerry Callahan. They're sticking to the same story. Meter states that there are a lot of networks out there and that he thinks he'll find something. Callahan backs up his story and cites Mike Breen and Sean Grande as flash guys who became PBP guys. What he didn't mention is that those two guys are good at it. If Meter keeps trying to make every call sound like "Havlicek stole the ball", he's not going to get far.

I'm wondering if his contract had run out and they forced him to put up or shut up. It sounds like he certainly doesn't have a job lined up. With a new AD at BC, that gig could be in trouble............especially without the WEEI connection. The only mention of BC on 'EEI was from Meter and before him Ted Sarandis. I have to believe that Gene DeFillipo was influenced by that.

Meter is good enough to find a minor league baseball p-b-p gig somewhere. Not great money and the travel sucks, but if he's willing to pay his dues he could do OK. He won't be walking into a major league, NBA, NHL or NFL gig right off the bat. Well...then again, if hockey does get going again I suppose he could call games for the Coyotes or Blue Jackets....

Meter had a good run. Will the RS come to his aid and will BC stick with him (Gene's gone)?

Think about it. Meter's career was dead in the water if he stayed doing what he was doing at WEEI. The fact that people think it strange for some guy to decide to roll the career dice after years as a third banana, says more about them than it does about him.

Sometimes things are as they appear.

I fully expect Meter will be the new Revs radio announcer in 2013.

BC? - IMG will decide.

As Dirty Harry once said; "A man's got to know his limitations". He is a terrible play-by-play guy. I think WEEI is the reason he has the BC job. Now that Gene is gone, that could be in jeopardy. I know his career is dead in the water, but this seems a bit reckless.

I guess he's convinced himself that he's good at PBP. The funny thing is that he constantlly ridicules Yankee announcer, John Sterling, but he's just like him, maybe worse. I'm wondering that if he thinks he has a shot at Gil Santos' job next year and feels he has to leave WEEI to get it. If he got the Pats' job, I and a ton of other Pats' fans would be shocked. Of course stranger things have happened. Look at Muttnansky.

Meterparel is a horrific 'talent.' Today, he's been reduced to doing unlistenable PBP for BCs moribund football and basketball teams. Then, the rest of the time he's in a little booth doing commercials for car dealers, vacuum cleaners, corn mazes, cupcakes, male enhancement products, detergent, greeting cards, and other items of urgent need. He's a snake-oil salesman; a huckster with an awful voice.

Happily, he's a media hack and that means he'll waddle over here and read that I called him that. It's what they do. Looking into mirrors and scouring media web sites are the two things people like Meter like doing most.

" he thinks he'll find something"

Tells you all you need to know.

While on the air, he's ripped a lot of talent. Rule No. 2 of the business is if you want to go anywhere, don't get a reputation for ripping the gainfully employed. It'll bite you.

What's rule No. 1?
