JOURNEY 97.9

979 has ended it's 2 and a half day stunting run to become ac formatted as we all expected(surprise surprise) they named it Journey 979. It's practically identical to the Journey 941 in Cincinnati. Woww. What are your thoughts?

Doesn't look like this will affect Q100, but B98.5 is square in Journey's target. Cumulus must smell blood over at B98.5. It also provides a good format fill-in between soon-to-be-sister AGH and Q100, and doesn't tangle too much with hot hot AC Star (although weekends should be interesting for both B98.5 and Star).

What will make or break this station will be the music mix. Will they play some aggressive 80s pop hits (early MTV stuff), or play it safe with mostly lite AC stuff? How will this station differentiate itself from B98.5? How will B98.5 respond?

To me it already sounds more alive than B, B is stale with the audio, and sick of the dj's there too.

Love the JAMS jingles too.. they actually seem to have some decent production value in this... and a pretty upbeat presentation too. Will give Cumulus this... they are giving people more of a variety utilizing their HD signals and these translators....

Absolutely agree, this audio is so much better than B.

Seriously, if Cumulus is going to keep launching these "Journey" stations, the least they can do is select another song from the group Journey if they want to sell listeners on the gimmick. What about "Faithfully?" I know it's slow and sappy, but just listen to the lyrics - "I'm forever yours, faithfully" - or does not going this route imply that the braintrust at Cumulus really has no faith in these "Journeys" in the long run?

Sounds like B-98 but with some balls..............which they never had.

Guess they saw a big hole in 80s and 90s coverage............and went with it!

Yep 97.9 just played Skywave cut #2 into Madonna's "Like A Prayer". I'm pretty sure these same jingles were on Power 99 back in the day, as sonovox (so there's your Power 99 for you). I remember cut #17 was "Weather for America's Greatest City ..."

80s and 90s. How does this affect our big 80s and 90s weekends on said respective stations?

We are all radio geeks or we wouldn't be on this board. I really don't think this little translator will affect B-98.5 at all. Zip. 100kw vs 250w. Really? And is Cumulus going to spend the $$ to promote it? Probably not. I know I wouldn't. I'd put up billboards and run TV ads for my 100kw stations. Not a translator.

So while it's been fun for all of us to speculate, get excited, compare programming, audio, etc, the reality is, in the REAL world of average folks, this signal means nothing.

In the words of Officer Barbrady, "Move along people, there's nothing to see here."

Agree and disagree. Yes, it won't affect B or Wild in the long run.
No. They will promote it. They already are promoting it AS IF it were a full-power station. To the general public, it's a NEW station, no matter about the signal. If it's programmed well, and you can receive it, you will keep it.

Which leads to the thought that a good low power status could become high power through a swap with an underperforming regular-powered station. Cumulus has done it before; kinda like running a minor league farm team.

****Mark this Post****

I can see it now.....

106.7 The Journey Totally 80's and 90's and Randy and Spiff in the Mornings.

It's a natural progression from the currenttired True Oldies format.

It's already affected B98.5...B started the All 80s weekend early.

been listening since it went live. Great imaging, much more alive than B. If anything, it's a great addition to the stale lineup Atlanta radio has become world famous for. The signal is pretty strong around Cobb, I can get it all the way from Smyrna to Acworth, comes in rock solid on my Bose Wave Radio with the line cord antenna, can't say the same for the "new" 99X position on 99.1.

That is what I have been saying all day....I like it

I only listened for a few minutes... But, BORING. I was hoping for something different and fresh. Something to excite me the way dave fm excited me when they first signed on.
