97.9 is in stereo. So is 99.1.

Both rarely come in in stereo in Alpharetta - someone posted a while back that the 97.9 broadcast was in mono to increase the signal reach...

I'm getting it in stereo. When 99X was on it they may have switched it to mono, but it's in stereo now.
 
Any chance that Journey would start playing the classic American Top 40 shows with Casey Kasem? I know a lot of classic hits and AC/Hot AC stations play this across the country.

I would love to see that. Premiere/CC has done a nice job remastering the shows, and they typically air with a lighter spot load than originally.

Some other notes:

In the "how will this affect B98.5" department, B98.5 has gone for more deeper, New Wavier cuts this weekend. Duran Duran, A Flock Of Seagulls, etc. And sister River is playing more 80s poppish AOR (Billy Squier, etc.).

Journey is still airing parts of the flip as imaging. The snippets from the Power 99 to 99X flip ("we are definitely changing") are amusing, considering the time period that Journey is targeting and the fact that Journey could consider both Power 99 and 99X to be its forebears for 80s and 90s, respectively.

But why is Journey still using the old Quixie imaging? I'm surprised the folks at LFM are still OK with that, considering Star competing with Journey to some extent, and also probably doesn't want them to invoke Quixie or 94Q.

Why not? "Quixie" is so much of a "historical landmark" in Atlanta that it is probably considered to be public domain. (Also, it DOES promote WQXI - no matter what format they are - so there shouldn't be any flack there.)
And, remember, this is a translator - translating a subchannel - not a "radio station".

Does the music quality sound comparable to B98.5 downtown? For me, everything Journey 97.9 plays sounds like it's coming from a cassette

By sound quality and processing, it's not quite as good as B98.5, with 97.9 using a touch more compression (the Cox stations do a great job with this IMO--River is one of the best-sounding stations in the city)--but a LOT better than 106.7, which still sounds like AM. 106.7 has gotten better (less compression, but still plenty of AMish frequency rolloffs on both ends), but it still doesn't sound that good.
 
OK, it has been on long enough to get an idea of what they do, Overall I like it, but like all stations it is somewhat repetitive in their play list. I like the jingles packages they do, but their are so many other great tracks from the 80's and 90's that they do not touch. What do you guys truly think is going to happen with this., BTW I was way out in Dallas, GA a few days ago, and the signal on my Jeep car radio was still extremely good, not sputtering or static at all.
 
They are very inconsistent. Sometimes they are in the groove and sometimes they
are out. Lately they've been more out than in.
 
I think it sounds strange to cut from Alanis Morissette/Thank U to Prince/I Would Die 4 U - IMO they're gonna have to focus on either 80s/AC or 90s/Gen X, cause I'm not sure the two have that much of a shared audience

You are correct, their are lots of 90s I do not like. I would rather it be 70s and 80s.
 
I have noticed a few very short commercials recently, but are they ever going to do commercials? Hope not, just asking, was just thinking since it is really a translator can they even play a set of commercials???Thanks

Plus I went up to Chateau Elan a few days ago, and the signal was great all the way there, pretty impressive.

They are playing (translating) the HD signal (2 or 3) off of the a regular commercial FM. which can have commercials. Translators can now be used for Commercial and Non Commercial FM's or AM's.
