July PPM

Still good for two months in. WSB's big drop to a 5.1 appears to be caused, partly, by WYAY. Their cume has also dropped.

Just look at KROI. They had a .2 when tet started. For the first full month, that is strong

Fish seems to be doing well. Is Fish picking up the soft AC listeners from B98.5? Maybe those concerned about the racier lyrics in B's hotter AC mix?

WYAY-fm 0.8

That is strange WYAY-FM is better than the Merlin O&O's in NYC and Chicago. How could WYAY-FM be this low? They based their news format after KCBS-AM/FM in San Francisco. If WYAY-FM is going to rake in ratings wouldn't they need to air Falcon's Football or Hawks Basketball in the future like KGO-AM in SFO would air 49ers this year. Or WCBS-AM in NYC airing Yankees Baseball to stabilize the ratings

As I've said before, AN106.7 is over-hyped. Yes, it sounds good (and I don't really care for the format), but I get a feeling from reading these boards that it is expected to be a major player. It may take a little out of WSB, but IMO will never come close to them in ratings. I suspect their numbers to stay much closer to WGST.

Heck, I don't think it'll ever do what AGH did last summer when they hit their best (3.0 or a little more) before Cumulus let it go in the late fall and winter. AGH wasn't a horrible failure, Cumulus just let it go after they took over.

I do think it could outbill AGH.

The numbers are about where I thought they would be. I actually was predicting a 1.0. The station has done very little advertising. There are a couple of billboards and signs on the front of MARTA buses. That does nothing for the burbs. At some point some advertising dollars will need to be spent to make it successful. Personally, I would wait another couple of months to spend those dollars. The on-air product is still a work in progress.

I'm not going to deny that AGH wasn't a huge performer, not at all (although I don't think AN106.7 will get the ratings they did, but revenue is what matters)....however, Cumulus turned the classic hits format in to a disasterous hodge-podge after they took over, so that could explain the Q1 '12 decline over Q1 '10. AGH sounded and did the best they ever did right before Cumulus took over.

Way to go MAJIC 107.5/97.5, #2!!! IMO, Majic is better than Kiss. Urban is the big winners in ATL,but what happened to PRAISE 102.5/102.9?

Do you guys think a 2.3 share is high enough for CBS to reconsider flipping Dave?

I think that what has helped Dave is that they finally seem to have settled into a format that's a niche and stuck with it for a few months. In the past, they would tweak every few months and in my opinion, displace a large percentage of their listeners. If they would add more of a local artist flavor to the mix, I could see Dave consistently getting over a 3.0.

I think there is a place for a softer alternative station here but I'm not sure it's strong enough to justify a big stick.

Nope. Their minds are made up, unless it gets some mad billing rush and angry advertisers. It may show that there is some demand for AAA or Alternative on a decent (not translator) signal.

I think there's audience enough for Cumulus to put 99X on 100.5 (but please, nothing like "99X at 100.5")....if they don't plan on putting 680 there, with 100.5's ratings, seems like it'd definitely be an improvement. Not sure if TRG would fit, though.

Agree. 99x certainly deserves an actual signal. Make it a bit more AAA friendly, like (we all know what radio station I'm gonna say here), put it on 100.5's stick, and watch the listeners flock to it. I also agree that the 99x on __._ should be let go.

The switch to all sports is about marketing to guys using multiple platforms, of which the broadcast is just one piece.

I just hope that if 99x does it, they get a little more adventurous in their music. Get tired of hearing new alternative music on 99x weeks after it comes out on other alternative rock stations like CD102.5 in Columbus and WFNX in Boston. Hell, even Radio 104.5, a God for saken CC station, breaks out the new music first.

I agree, pull in more AAA music and drop all the active rock. Seether and Staind is NOT alternative. Ok, I'm done! :p

Alternative / AA = classic hits* / oldies. Both have succeed in other markets but not here. Is it the Atlanta radio market or is it a case of "bad presentation" form the operators?

*IMHO 97.1 is really a classic rock station. WSRV list themselves as Classic Hits in Arbitron. When I think of classic hits I think of a WCBS FM or KLUV (Dallas) type of presentation.

The River is a total joke in my opinion, they play about 25 songs, they are no more classic hits than WSB AM......

In a spot this morning River referred to what they play as "classic rock". That was the first time as I recall that they called their playlist that.

I think the problem with alt is that you have Project, 99X, and Dave splitting the audience between them. And I do agree about presentation. Plus, for some reason 80s new wave/alt doesn't seem to play well with 90s or 00s/10s. Maybe that's presentation and playlist design, too.

A 70s/80s classic hits station would do well if Journey wasn't in the picture, River stuck to classic AOR, and someone took the time to develop a proper playlist and maintain it.

I cannot see Project and Dave splitting any listeners . . . . . and the current 99X doesn't seem to attract the same crowd as either of them. I'd love to see 99X on a stick I could hear, and 100.5 seems a good place to do that. Other than the morning show, it's a write-off for me.

Why do you guys not think El Patron would move to 106.7 if Wild moves? I thought some of you guys had determined the penetration into the higher Hispanic concentrations was very good for 106.7?
